Ummm Mickey was a useless meat sack. He was a walking plot device. I'm continually shocked he didn't die after his 3rd appearance. I'd drop a jello mold like him without thinking if I had an opportunity that was better that department sales girl with nothing-ass boyfriend. And I don't even LIKE this stupid show.

EDIT: He is really cute, though. I'd do him, if I did men.

I never was quite sure what Mickey did to deserve the disrespect he got from the Doctor and especially Rose. I mean, in the first episode he freaked out when confronted with the existence of aliens, but other than that, he doesn't really seem to do much to support the other characters' apparent belief that he's an idiot. So you have dialogue like "You're not keeping the horse!" "I let you keep Mickey!" and you're not sure where they're getting this from.

I think the doctor's disrespect is harder to understand than Rose's (though I suppose it's jealousy, which would make it easier to understand?) I get the impression Rose has known him since their childhood, and she's probably used at being better than him at things, so she doesn't notice his strengths or see his growth. Not that that excuses her exactly, but it seems very realistic. It's a normal relationship dynamic between siblings or a certain type of childhood friends. Although that makes me wonder why they dated in the first place. D:

There's quite a few people who have Issues with Rose's treatment of Mickey, myself included...my number one beef with Rose is "she's cruel to Mickey".

In all honesty I think you were supposed to see Mickey as a coward in Rose. And useless. And see how 'attracting' the Doctor and his life was.

However the 'a few days was actually a year for him and Rose's mum' episode wasn't cool. Especially when he was questioned for it and everyone thought he'd murdered her.

But that wasn't Rose's fault.

Though I don't where your getting your Rose love/hate figures from. I don't love her or hate her.

YANA. Okay, he freaked out in the first episode. He's just been captured by a wheelie bin and held prisoner and then his girlfriend fucks off into space! Dude, I'd freak out too. I just find it interesting that as Mickey gets redeemed and distinctly more kickarse, Rose gets more irritating... sod Rose, Mickey is AWESOME.

I liked his development a lot. He starts out as a pretty big coward, but by the end, I was rooting for him so hard, and had little to no respect left for Rose.
(Sure, she doesn't love him, she doesn't have to stay with him, but she didn't have to ditch him the way she did. FFFFFFF.)

Well, he did wait around for her like a lovesick puppy. :P I agree that the way Rose treated him was pretty crappy, but if he wasn't so spineless, he would have ditched her sometime in the middle of S1, instead of (literally) running to her like a puppy every time she came home. It's not like her feelings for the Doctor weren't completely obvious. (Mickey did eventually grow a spine, thankfully, even if it took him about ten times as long as it should have.)

TBQH If she hadn't done what she had done to him, he never would have strived to rise above and advance himself. He became the awesome BAMF he is BECAUSE she left him, so I am actually on the fence. Yeah what she did was crappy but I can forgive her because, honestly it gave us a badass but still wonderfully lovable black man on television. Mickey took his lemons and made lemon pies of win with his life.
