I don't think I've ever actually finished a game that you have to "beat". I always reach a point where at best I can't progress without finding hints in a walkthrough or at worst I just can't do the thing fast enough or in the right sequence. I still enjoy playing, but I rarely get all the way to the end and when I do, there's never a sense of achievement.

I've beat several games but I have had to use a guide. Though, I've had to give up on games because I'm not fast enough to finish the level.

I like watching other people play and learning the story, but I've definitely realized I'm not good at the "game" part. I don't like having to work out the logic or jump through hoops, even though I know that's a major draw of the genre.

I once spent a 5-day vacation beating MYST Riven. Fascinating game. But then I came out of it with soda cans all around me and my eyes bleary with exhaustion and realized I'd wasted my entire vacation accomplishing nothing but bragging rights, and I never went back to gaming. I need my hobbies to result in something palpable. My parents weren't Protestant but they definitely infected me with a work ethic.

But man, I miss MYST. https://youtu.be/LN1TQm942_U?si=-Pwq4uW6KDBS_mqS
Except for that stupid ore cart.

gaming can be a dangerous hobby indeed

there's no shame in walkthroughs, I've happily resorted to them after getting tired of failing trying to do it myself. it's the latter, when you just can't hit buttons fast enough or time a jump or do something that is directly tied to the physical skill of button-pushing rather than logic or finding a method that drives me nuts. I can't 100 percent so many games because no, I'm not good enough at one minigame which means I can't complete a checklist which means no trophy, or my hands physically can't react fast enough to block the megaboss who's technically optional buuuuut if you don't beat him you don't get the weapon that's the last collectible on the list and no trophy.

(shoutout to Yakuza for the shitty, shitty gambling and karaoke minigames curbstomping on my completion! fuck you!)

What pisses me off the most is how there are some games that you can't 100% anymore even if you were the most insane gamer in the world because they had a ton of trophies that were only obtainable in an online mode (which I hate) and a lot of those servers in these games have shut down years ago.
