(no subject)

'Cause we gotta do this at least like once a year.

[Poll #1484034]

Whatever's decided goes into practice next Saturday, Nov 14th.

voted for the "not secrets" options

[identity profile] putyouon.livejournal.com 2009-11-11 08:00 pm (UTC)(link)
voted leave em both. i love those kind of secrets, especially the mishaland ones! <3

[identity profile] starchildorion.livejournal.com 2009-11-11 08:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Meh, just leave them. It's not a big deal and less work for people to do just so someone doesn't have to scroll.

[identity profile] misscherri.livejournal.com 2009-11-11 08:01 pm (UTC)(link)
I really hate the ship/hit secrets, unless they're actually WORTH being secrets, but there are rarely any like that, so I said just ban them

[identity profile] that-evening.livejournal.com 2009-11-11 08:05 pm (UTC)(link)
I voted on both that they are not secrets unless there is more to it. Generally, those sort of comments are not secrets at all.

I think comms ones should go, but I'd hit it/ship it secrets are sometimes amusing, or you realize you're not the only one in the universe, so keep those.

[identity profile] ceylon-tae.livejournal.com 2009-11-11 08:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Aw, come on! The I SHIP IT/I'D HIT IT secrets are my favorites! D:

[identity profile] 51stcenturyfox.livejournal.com 2009-11-11 08:07 pm (UTC)(link)
I like the I'd hit it/ship it secrets! But if they're a common ship or a hottie, I'm not sure they're really "secrets".

[identity profile] gully-moe.livejournal.com 2009-11-11 08:09 pm (UTC)(link)
I say 'not secrets' unless they have an explanation as to why shipping it or hitting is a secret. But some "hit it" secrets can be self explanatory.

[identity profile] jestergundam.livejournal.com 2009-11-11 08:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Voted not unless they have more than plain old "I'd hit it/I ship it, I love/hate this comm."

I feel a bit more strongly about community secrets than ship it/hit it secrets though.

(Anonymous) 2009-11-11 08:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Leave the "I ship it/Hit it" secrets out of principle. There are plenty of pairings/people where this isn't much of a secret but there are some pairings/people where this is a reasonable secret. (Young Stalin was a fox but admitting that you'd hit it, is shameful to the extreme because it's Stalin.)

And because you can't really draw the line between people/ships that are secret-worthy and those who aren't you have to keep both in order to keep the secret-worthy ones.

The comm secrets generate lots of wank which bring the lulz. And lulz are always good.

I think it's fine if there is a reason it's a secret. because sometimes it's like YEAH OKAY AND? SO WOULD I

[identity profile] snowfall36.livejournal.com 2009-11-11 08:10 pm (UTC)(link)
I put "not secrets unless..." for both because half the time I think people are posting them just to get the comments, not because they actually keep them as secrets

I think there are a lot of poor secrets many people are tired of, but I don't think we should make it a practice to get rid of them. This community shouldn't be about hand selecting a few original secrets but letting everyone vent.

[identity profile] missmorrichan.livejournal.com 2009-11-11 08:11 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't mind them, to be honest, as long as there's some sort of justification provided. Even a small blurb along with the "I'd hit it/ship it" bit. That way, those of us who may be unfamiliar with the fandom/characters/whatever in question can better appreciate why such a thing should be a secret.

[identity profile] halfapint.livejournal.com 2009-11-11 08:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Really not fussed either way about the I SHIP IT/WOULD HIT IT ones (sometimes they're amusing, have to admit!), but the commm ones always make me giggle. Not to mention sometimes highlight comms I'd be interested in but otherwise wouldn't have heard of. <3

I don't think most hit it/ship it secrets are actually secrets -- unless the person has crappy friends (which I'm sure is true of some) -- but they're sometimes amusing and not doing any harm.

That Supernatural dude pouring milk on his face, though, he can go away any time now.

[identity profile] oberongeiger.livejournal.com 2009-11-11 08:20 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't see that much of the second (COMM) one. Leave 'em in then.

The first ones (SHIP/HIT) are WAY overdone and not really secrets unless there's more detail.

[identity profile] ms-cucumber.livejournal.com 2009-11-11 08:21 pm (UTC)(link)
I agree with everyone who says that "I'd hit it/ship it" should not be secrets unless it's obvious why this should be kept a secret, or if the poster gives a good why they personally feel like it should be a secret. And "my friends would think I'm weird" is not a good reason.

The same goes for hating a community. If you hate a community, all you have to do is drop it from your Friends list and never think about it again. There's no reason to tell everybody how much you hate it. If you like a community, I don't see why that should generally be a secret unless there's a good explanation.

[identity profile] dethtoll.livejournal.com 2009-11-11 08:22 pm (UTC)(link)
i say leave 'em. they're an integral part of F!S and it wouldn't be nearly the same.

[identity profile] khaman.livejournal.com 2009-11-11 08:22 pm (UTC)(link)
I voted 'not secrets,' but I'll admit to a heavy amount of 'whatever,' too. It doesn't hurt anything.

(Anonymous) 2009-11-11 08:23 pm (UTC)(link)
most of the 'I ship it' secrets are useless now. Shipping two 9 year old siblings? ok, I agree that's a secret. Shipping two houses from two different shows because they kinda look similar? STFU. NOT A SECRET.

[identity profile] haleysings.livejournal.com 2009-11-11 08:23 pm (UTC)(link)
I actually really like the shipping/hitting secrets, because I like seeing people's preferences and finding out about pairings I hadn't thought of (or finding out I'm not alone!). Plus, like someone said above, a lot of them are genuine secrets, and it's not fair to judge a secret's worthiness by how valid you think it is to keep it a secret.

Comm secrets are a liiiittle more annoying, but I don't feel strongly about them either way, so I said "whatever". I won't be sad to see them go, but i don't have a good reason to ban them.

Don't care for the Hit it/Ship it because people's reasons are stupid. If your friends would bitch at you about it, then they're not friends.

The comm ones are just annoying because honestly? Who cares. If you don't like a comm, don't join it.
