Re: Rising hunger / portable food pantry

That's not a bad idea if you have a car, and it's kind of you to try and help when you're not well off yourself.

Yeah idk, this is gonna be bad, especially in states that didn't shovel SNAP funds out the door in the brief window between court shenanigans. Here's hoping justice Jackson's maneuvering pays off (my understanding is her stay requires the Supreme Court to make a decision ASAP, and not take one of the other options that would've let them kick the can down the road for months.)

One of my coworkers used to spring for handwarmers to hand out at our work when it rains or gets super cold, and now a couple of us take it in turns. Another serves food at a church on his lunch break once a week. During COVID lockdown I still had to go to work after the first couple weeks, but we were closed to the public, and I started handing out snack bags with fruit and cheese and crackers and stuff to our homeless regulars who still hung out outside.

We haven't had anybody ask for food outright recently, but it's happened before and if things keep going like this, it'll probably happen again. I hand out fruit when we host a garden swap, and I'm raising hens from chicks right now, so if this bullshit is as bad or worse by spring, I'll have eggs to share, too. I guess if I prioritize my homeless neighbors, I'll have to hand out boiled eggs because they won't have anyplace to cook them.

Ugh, I hate this. Richest country in the world, and first the assholes destroyed USAID, and now they're bringing starvation home. If that ballroom ever gets finished, maybe the dipshits who wanted and greenlit and funded it while children went hungry can get locked in for a month.
