In our 20s-early 30s, one of my friends would often say "I can't wait until you have kids of your own" to me and I never knew how to tell her that I wasn't sure if I even wanted kids.
Somewhere in our mid 30s she changed it to "do you think you'll have kids?"
The change in framing helped open up more communication between us.

It's frustrating to deal with a society that expects us to become parents the second we hit adult age. And the shame that comes along with not wanting them or not being sure just makes the whole thing a pain to deal with
