By now, the amount of thirst for white middle-aged British men on Tumblr (specifically for Taskmaster and also panel shows in general) should not surprise me, but it does.

I like Reece Shearsmith! And his snazzy jacket!

And his grumpy old man attitude combined with a surprising talent for goth crafting!

Thanks to my teenage years watching it, I couldn’t stop seeing him as some of his LOG characters at first. But I’m afraid his righteous fury got me and I was into him by the end. Granted, I’m probably a bit older than some of the people thirsting on tumblr.

I wish the people behind the Where Taken photogame would ban palm tree and beaches holiday-brochure cover shots.

They are uninformative boring. I started the game because it showed actual varied landscapes, or cityscapes, that introduced me to new things and told me more about other nations. Beach and palm trees are just low effort garbage.

I had no idea that’s what that game was! I see it posted in the games thread frequently but never joined because I didn’t know what it was. I just played for the first time and it was thankfully mostly pretty obvious spots. There was one that I didn’t see enough to research so took a wild guess and was so wrong that I didn’t get any points. But I got the last one spot on and learned a whole lot about sunken churches.

I'm at the age where people ask when I'm going to have kids, and I tell them in all seriousness that I prefer video games.
They always think it's a joke, but it's not. I would 100% resent it if a child cut into my hobby time.
Why would you want a child to have a parent like me?

I'm lucky, in that nobody around me has ever pestered me about when I was planning on having children. Not even when I moved in with a partner. Having an aunt and uncle who decided to forego having a family helped buttress any potential bingoing.

Even my own mother learned to accept my choice, and while I'm more than happy to be a doting aunt to a cool nephew and a brand new niece, at the end of the day, I can give them back to their parents.

It's fucking weird how invested some folks are in other people's sex lives and reproductive decisions. It's one thing to ask "do you have kids?" or "you think you'll have kids someday?" But asking "when"? Nah, fuck off with that shit unless you're my partner and we've had actual discussions about it.

For me, it's that I'm a very spontaneous person and kids would ruin that. I'm constantly heading off on spur-of-the-moment weekend adventures and I couldn't do that if I had kids to worry about, so why would I want them?

These are good, but they're too damn bleak for me. The characters are both unpleasant and depressed in a way I just don't want to spend time with. The TV show is much better for me because it added some levity, but it also means I don't have to listen to the characters' thoughts. S!B: I think the characters are well written and it makes me feel childish to need something nicer and friendlier and more likeable to motivate me through a whole book. Especially when the whole point is being a less idealistic or romanticized spy story.

None of my fandoms are holding my interest now. Real life is so awful, I find myself unable to focus on shows, movies, games, books…

Instead, I gone back to old fandoms, circa 2008-2015. Life was better then.
