(Anonymous) 2025-11-15 05:27 am (UTC)(link)I know Coco is a family movie, a sort of fairytale aimed at a younger audience, but as someone who lived with abusive guardians who threatened me and my siblings with emotional and physical violence or sending us away--one of those guardians actually did put us in a children's home--for stupid shit, I have to say the behavior I saw from some of the adults in Coco was triggering.
And Miguel seemed so trapped, too, which made his predicament feel even more chilling to me. His grandmother had so much power over him and his life. He had to escape into the afterlife to find someone to support him unconditionally. That's incredibly sad to me.
