I don't get secrets like this. Things are allowed to exist even if you don't like them. And it is possible to find places where just about anything isn't talked about. You just need the right place. Nothing is talked about everywhere.

To be fair, they didn’t say it wasn’t allowed to exist and I think of FS as just the right place to give voice to those petty or uncharitable thoughts.

And you’re right that it’s possible to find places where a given thing isn’t being discussed. But I do also know that frustration of having zero interest in (or active dislike of) a topic that your friends or coworkers are very keen on.

HOW DARE THERE BE A TV SHOW I AM NOT INTERESTED IN?!?!!?!? its literally a petty gripe shared anonymously because it's petty and not something op wants to say to their friends or whoever they are hearing talk about stranger things

i get it, only with wicked. i read the book when i was frankly too young/immature for it, and it freaked me out badly, so i have never had any interest in the play or the movie. and i'm tired of hearing about it, so i totally get op's sentiment, because i'll be happy in a few months when it is no longer the newest thing and isn't being discussed everywhere and i don't have to see pink and green bullshit everywhere i look

Oh man, Wicked. I hate Wicked. I'm bitter that Wicked and the Wizard of Oz movies have taken over how people see Oz given how much I loved the books as a kid. The world is so much richer than those two adaptions show. But to each their own, people can love what they want. I will still keep hating them, though.

Well, yeah. But that has nothing to do with this secret or the experiences of anyone who is surrounded by fans of a thing they don’t like. Work and school exist. Families exist. Even highly curated social media threads could still include mentions.

And as others have pointed out, OP never said they wished the show didn’t exist. They expressed looking forward to not hearing about anymore.

Believed or not, for a while I didn't even know it had more than one season until it had a tie in thing with a fandom I'm in. I think most of the hype already died a while ago, but may be about the spaces you're at, I guess.

Same, I didn't know if the show was still going or how many seasons, because there's no noise about it in between seasons unless there's a merch thing. I've seen the range of tie-ins, it's weird for a show that I otherwise hear nothing about in my own fandom spaces.

I'm not in the fandom and no longer even have a Netflix subscription, but I hear about each season regardless.

I don't know, man. I mean, some things do come into existence all celebrated and in-demand but then fade from consciousness once they are over. But some things that caught the zeitgeist a decade or three ago are still talked about pretty passionately.

The trend of rebooting franchises at shorter and shorter intervals has really gotten ridiculous. For example, a remake of MOANA, which hasn't even been out for a DECADE yet??? Come on.

Of course it'll make money hand over fist, so I get why they do it. I still hate it though.

They're average, at best. I think you might need to watch more things, if that's your idea of amazing.

I kind of get this sentiment. I stopped watching ST after season 3, and I was so annoyed with people's obsession with the show when season 4 came out. By this point, I've been able to keep my distance from ST, and I've found creators with think pieces similar to my thoughts/feelings on it, so I just generally can tune out all the hype around the supposed last season.

But the annoyance does crop up when I see so many videos about ST when I scroll through my homepage on YT or I see reposts of ST related posts on Tumblr. I just remind myself it'll be over soon and find something else to focus on.
