My late parents used to play the Gordon Lightfoot song when I was a kid, so there's a lot of nostalgia at work here too, but the song and story of the Edmund Fitzgerald always moved me, even when I was little. It still does. I cannot listen to the song or read the account of its sinking without getting all teary-eyed.

It's not an exaggeration to say that I think about this every November. I have no personal connection to the ship, but I'm glad people haven't forgotten.

"We are holding our own." - That still gets me right in the feels.

It gets me a little every time too.

I think there are a couple of folk songs that get me like that and I’m not sure what it is about the genre. Maybe they tend to be more commemorative of tragedies. Maybe it’s my own nostalgia for the music I grew up around.

Tell me you're from Michigan without telling me you're from Michigan--

(I'm kidding, Wisconsin and Canada around that area seem to also have Big Feelings about the Fitz.)

This is 100% valid. I have a lot of feelings about shipwrecks and sea shanties despite being like. More or less landlocked my entire life.
