I couldn't agree more. The moment I heard Billie Eilish gave away $11.5 million I was like, "Here we go." Well, first I was like, "That's amazing, good for her!" and then I was like, "Here we go." And sure enough I saw so many people falling all over themselves to insist that Taylor Swift would never.

Except that she gave millions to foodbanks over the course of the Eras tour, quietly making huge food bank donations in every city the tour stopped in. She gave $5M to hurricane relief in 2024. She's estimated to have donated well over $6.5 million to charity in 2025 alone. And all of this is on top of the ONE HUNDRED AND NINTY-SEVEN MILLION DOLLARS she gave in bonuses to the cast and crew of the Eras tour.

People really just have a narrative in their head of what they want to believe Taylor Swift is like, and no amount of factual reality can dissuade them from clinging to that narrative.

tbh I have a million times more respect for people who do things like that WITHOUT making a big public deal out of it. That tells me that their reasons for giving are genuine and aren't just about trying to score points.

"She gave to charity, therefore she shouldn't have to say anything when fascists use her music to support their tyranny!" is certainly a take

"She already made her political leanings more than clear in the past but her not saying something THIS time makes her MAGA nazi scum!" is an even dumber take.

Oh, is it?

Because "She said something in the past and views can never be dishonest or change" isn't the brilliant take you think it is. It's very easy to say one thing and do something different. She's showing you who she is with her silence.
