I get tired of people putting more pressure on Taylor Swift than on anyone else. Trump's social media has used songs from many artists, but the only one people focus on is Taylor Swift. All the others are just left off the hook, but Taylor is supposed to condemn it? It's ok for the other artists to ignore it, but if Taylor doesn't, it means she's secretly MAGA? She gets compared to every celebrity all the time and it's so irritating to see.

(Anonymous) 2025-11-22 01:01 am (UTC)(link)
well, if 50 songs get used without authorization, and 49 artists come out to say "hey whoa, NO, not without my permission fuck you cease and desist" and 1 artist does not, I'm gonna side eye that 1. that whole 'sphere is wholeheartedly stealing and using music, video capture, gameplay, and images of licensed, trademarked property without permission, compensation, or any legal right to do so (not parody, not fair use) and everyone whose property was stolen and used without permission is rightfully mad about it. if hers was also and she says nothing? yeah, that's sus.

(Anonymous) 2025-11-22 01:24 am (UTC)(link)
Is this what happened? Is Taylor Swift the one artist who said nothing? I'd think the million other bitchfests about her on here would've brought that up as a legit reason to hate her instead of resorting to "PRIVATE JET!" and "HER FAMILY ISN'T POOR!!!!"

She has been very clear what her politics are on numerous occasions. If you choose to ignore her very public, very clear statements of political allegiance, that says something about you, not her.

Furthermore, Taylor Swift tends to keep silent when speaking up would mean acknowledging something that is so absurd and cretinous it doesn't deserve to be dignified with a response. I respect the hell out of her for that. I kind of wish more celebs would follow suit.

Bullshit

This is a nonsense reply.

As the anon said, it’s that she didn’t object to it. Remember back in summer 2024 when all of America loved Snoop? But then in January 2025 he performed at Trump’s inauguration and now no one likes Snoop.

(Anonymous) 2025-11-22 04:00 am (UTC)(link)
Plenty of people like Snoop.

Do none of you actually go outside and interact with humans offline?

(Anonymous) 2025-11-22 07:01 am (UTC)(link)
Not making a performative public statement to announce that you don't approve of the president stealing from you (purely for the dummies who are too stupid to have figured that out on their own), is not remotely the same thing as accepting an invitation to perform for the president.

(Anonymous) 2025-11-22 01:53 am (UTC)(link)
Looks like she's adopted a "no comment" stance on most things like this. If she sticks to it, I respect the hell out of it.

Because once you join the discourse, good fucking luck extricating yourself.

(Anonymous) 2025-11-22 02:35 am (UTC)(link)
I mean when she endorsed Harris she entered the ring I feel, so I do think she can't retreat into "no comment" without having people question why.

(Anonymous) 2025-11-22 03:27 am (UTC)(link)
I don't respect it.

We need every voice to stand up against fascism, even it's just to say "don't fucking use my music."

I generally prefer when celebs refuse to let the public browbeat them into things that shouldn't be their responsibility in the first place. If a celeb is going to take a stance on something, I want it to be because they want to, not because they're resigned to being the public's bitch.

In Taylor's case, anyone who thinks she supports Trump simply because she hasn't dignified his miserable toddler ass with her attention is pretty clearly someone who wants to believe the worst about her and is using any excuse they can find to do so.

I couldn't agree more. The moment I heard Billie Eilish gave away $11.5 million I was like, "Here we go." Well, first I was like, "That's amazing, good for her!" and then I was like, "Here we go." And sure enough I saw so many people falling all over themselves to insist that Taylor Swift would never.

Except that she gave millions to foodbanks over the course of the Eras tour, quietly making huge food bank donations in every city the tour stopped in. She gave $5M to hurricane relief in 2024. She's estimated to have donated well over $6.5 million to charity in 2025 alone. And all of this is on top of the ONE HUNDRED AND NINTY-SEVEN MILLION DOLLARS she gave in bonuses to the cast and crew of the Eras tour.

People really just have a narrative in their head of what they want to believe Taylor Swift is like, and no amount of factual reality can dissuade them from clinging to that narrative.

(Anonymous) 2025-11-22 03:29 am (UTC)(link)
tbh I have a million times more respect for people who do things like that WITHOUT making a big public deal out of it. That tells me that their reasons for giving are genuine and aren't just about trying to score points.

(Anonymous) 2025-11-22 03:41 am (UTC)(link)
"She gave to charity, therefore she shouldn't have to say anything when fascists use her music to support their tyranny!" is certainly a take

The problem is precisely that she isn't condemning it. Maybe she has her reasons, but as someone who's both a billionaire and white, it's not a good look.

Think about it. When you have great privilege, and someone uses your words as a soundtrack to their acts of oppression against others, and you say nothing, you are by extension participating in that oppression. Basically, it's remaining neutral in a situation where there is a clear oppressor. Maybe you're not directly causing harm, but by saying nothing, you give the message that you are okay with others being harmed.

In ordinary times, yes, not being an asshole is a no-brainer. But these are not ordinary times, and that alone doesn't cut it. You have to actively condemn being an asshole and work toward a system that doesn't let assholes get away with hurting others.

I don't let anyone else off the hook, because it's not okay for anyone else to ignore it. Taylor doesn't get special treatment.

(Anonymous) 2025-11-22 03:55 am (UTC)(link)
You have to actively condemn being an asshole and work toward a system that doesn't let assholes get away with hurting others.

She has already done that, numerous times, on her own terms. Making a performative statement to remind people of that fact now, simply because Trump has forced her hand, would not be constructive.

(Anonymous) 2025-11-22 04:16 am (UTC)(link)
Vacuously condemning shit doesn't make any difference at all, regardless of the times. In fact, sometimes, it can make it harder for you to do truly meaningful work, because it paints a target on your back, provides your enemy with ammo, or both.

Real politics and real struggle is not about producing performative sound bites. I really hope people like you will figure that out at some point, because you're actually making it harder for us, and making it easier for Trump and his supporters.

She's friends with Brittany MAGAhomes now, you think she's really going to say anything about Trump now?

I get so irritated by this too, OP! Trump wants her to respond. That's the whole fucking point. Olivia Rodrigo demands he stop using her song? Fifty million articles about it and the hit count goes through the roof. Taylor Swift ignores it? Not quite as impactful, but still gets media attention. It's a lose-lose situation.

The only way she could not play his game is to take all of her music off social media so that no one can use it for their videos, but why the hell should she?

So many people in this comment section can't read

(Anonymous) 2025-11-22 01:11 pm (UTC)(link)
So many people still don't seem to get the "why only condemn her and ignore the other artists not speaking out" part of the secret. It's like people see her name and just lose all logic and just turn to rage.

didn't she sue fans that were selling fan-made merch on etsy or something?

i think the fact that she's litigious with everything EXCEPT with this it's what's bothering people, and that added to the fact that her circle nowadays seems to be MAGA adjacent, some people are demanding a stance from her, which is valid

personally i think it is hilarious to expect a billionaire eco-terrorist to come out as left-leaning/say anything about the current american administration. she's clearly not bothered by it lmao

People just pay outsize attention to Taylor, end of. We're not getting Gaylor-level conspiracy brain about... idk another probably-straight artist, I don't follow music. Metallica guy.

(Maybe Gaylor was a bad example; that's RPF that's pretending to be a conspiracy because it thinks that's more respectable than RPF.)

(Anonymous) 2025-11-22 03:23 pm (UTC)(link)
thank you because i'm sick of seeing this. people seem to forget how he tweeted how much he hated her and that he and elon musk were making threats towards her this year, not to mention how she endorsed harris and biden in both elections and had to cancel tour dates because of threatened terrorist attacks. i'm quite honestly tired of people waiting for celebrities to save the world and "voting with their conscience" is what got trump elected in the first place, both times.
