When I was a kid, I sometimes had trouble distinguishing between what was real and what only existed on TV. On one memorable occasion I pitched a fit that the doctor had to actually touch me to do my yearly physical because why couldn’t he just use a tricorder.

...as an adult, I am still somehow disappointed that I have to have many and varied screenings for everything, each of which requires a separate appointment with a different specialist and yet another copay instead of just having this thing waved at me.

The real world has betrayed the expectations I was given as a child with regard to health care, lol

I hate the separate appointments! I don't know about a scanner, but I would love to just go in like taking a car to a garage and have them fix everything at once. (Or at least give out prescriptions or whatever.)

I just wish doctor's offices would answer their damn phones once in a while.

Or all have online platforms for making appointments at least.

I guess I wasn’t exposed to sci-fi until a little later in my youth because I mainly remember developing an understanding of medicine from historical fiction. I suspect were a lot fewer herbs and poultices involved in healthcare than I expected.

I was really susceptible to this as a kid as well. If it was explicitly magic or some kind of special tech from a futuristic sci fi show, that was fine, I understood that that wasn't real. But if it was something abnormal in a normal setting, without anyone treating it as humanly not possible, I totally believed it was a thing in real life as well. Anime gave me so many wrong expectations lol.

I would love to go in and have a quick non-invasive/touch-free scan like that.

Yes. Maybe one day.

I hear you re: the tricorder, OP. Also, shots that don't involve needles! No more colds! And most of all, no stupid health insurance companies.
