First, OP, I'm so sorry for your loss-- the dead dad club is the worst club I've ever been granted membership in. Grief is hard and it's weird and it can derail your life in unexpected ways. And as long as you're not spending rent money on the fandom stuff... you're okay! I mean some people spiral into serious self-destruction in grief! Overspending on fandom stuff you don't need might sometimes feel like you're shoveling trinkets into a gaping hole they're not built to fill, but you know... there are worse ways you could fail to fill that hole. And over time... you'll be ABLE to rediscover your sense of moderation. To keep the parts of fandom activity that are bringing you joy or community, that are genuinely buoying you up through the dark nights, and to leave off other things as they stop helping.

This. If it's not hurting you financially, then there's no harm in spending money on things that bring you joy in a time of grief.
