Re: I still have 6 days of vacation left

I'm always shocked at people who say this. Are you in the US? Because I always have to use at least half my vacation days as sick days because I only ever get a set amount of both.

I am in the US. I just get 15 vacation days and 5 sick days. I just never use them, lol.

NAYRT
I am not from US
and
just
HOW
This is amount is abomination.

(Tbf I don't have sick days at all. You can take how many you need here, but payment for sick leave is really bad for me for number of reasons (my job sucks))

Damn I love my municipal union job. I'm in the US, but get paid major holidays off, plus a couple random days, and then earn some fraction (depending on how long we've been at the job) of a day off every two weeks, which can be taken as sick or vacation time.

Once you hit I think 15 years on the job, it tops out at very slightly more than eight hours off earned every two weeks. And most but not all of that earned leave carries over year to year if you don't use it all; my cutoff is 350 hours of saved leave. There are still some folks who started decades and several contracts ago whose leave cap is 750 hours!

So theoretically (but it probably wouldn't be approved) I could burn through my leave by taking over a month off.

Okay, it's not France level or anything, and the pay is shit and we once went over a decade with no raises, but damn is it better than the big fat nothing (with bonus angry contempt) some employers/jobs have for their workers. I wish what my job offered was the standard baseline instead.
