This doesn't make any sense. I've learned from this thread what WeHo is. I am not American and I had to google what the fuck IS West Hollywood

To be clearer: it's almost certainly someone not American, who heard or read about it somewhere, because an American wouldn't ask about it this way assuming that this term is something that Americans generally recognize when it's not.

In the same way an American wouldn't ask a general audience what NoHo was like in the 1980s. They'd know most other Americans don't automatically recognize that this refers to a particular area of Manhattan if that's the only term they're given.

I see your point. But this is a strange assumption to me. As a non-American I would go for a full name so I wouldn't misuse slang. But it seems like some people (American) actually do use this shorthand.
