What is your favorite Christmas candy?

(Anonymous) 2025-12-08 10:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Do you have one, that is? I try to limit my sugar intake but I still occasionally grab those old-fashioned small candy canes, the ones that are maybe 3" long.

Chocolate oranges definitely! Especially the dark chocolate ones.

Yeeeeeeesssss, those are so good. I'm glad they migrated over the pond to the U.S.

There are a couple of 'winter holiday' special hershey kisses that I love. The candy cane flavor and the chocolate mint ones. I love when there are seasonal flavors that stay seasonal. I get annoyed when everything is available year round because then it doesn't ping as a special treat to me anymore.

I know what you mean. Sometimes it's the simple pleasures of life.

Oooh, I agree. I know this is a difference of opinion for some people (and that is fine! it's valid to feel differently) but some things are more special to me when they're not year-round. I love fall, but putting up pumpkins in July doesn't make fall happen any faster. Same with Christmas, putting up Christmas decorations in September is just silly to me. Part of what makes the seasons special to me is their limited time.

What are traditional Christmas candies besides candy canes?

I'm an idiot. I see the comments now.

Ribbon candy, peppermint bark, toffee, fudge, pralines, chocolate oranges are some off the top of my head.

Depends on your culture, really. Besides candy canes, all things peppermint or peppermint/chocolate, I see pralines, marzipan (either sculpted into stuff or covered in chocolate), chocolate covered marshmallows (reindeer poop!), chocolates shaped like Santa, snowmen, etc. ribbon candy, fudge...

Mostly chocolate. I just love chocolates collections, even better if imported.

Liquor or liqueur filled chocolates are good too.

And Mozartkugel, which only seem to pop up locally at this time.

Mozartkugel! I've only had those once, but they were delicious.

Honestly, Reece's Xmas trees, but lately they give me the worst possible fucking heartburn, so....*sigh*.

Those and the pumpkins at Halloween were my absolute favorite until a couple of years ago. Idk if they changed the recipe or I'm just getting old but they started to make me so sick. Heartburn and stomach upset. It was a sad blow.

I remembered another one, also old fashioned... Brach's peppermint nougat candies, the ones with a Christmas tree design on them.

The rest of the year, I don't really eat much mint flavored anything.

Trader Joe's has seasonal dark-chocolate-covered shortbread cookies in the shape of little stars. They're terrific.

There are these "Old Fashioned Creme drops" I get from Dollar General every year and I really like them. They're not as good as they used to be because the quality has fallen off over the years, but I still enjoy them. I think they're made by Zachary chocolates.

Chocolate covered cherries, the popcorn in the popcorn tins (although I don't buy that very often anymore because they are now stupid expensive for a much smaller tin), and all the peppermint-chocolate items that come out.

OH!!! And I almost forgot my #1. Meltaway Mints from Hickory Farms. White chocolate with mint flavoring. SO FUCKING GOOD. Sadly they only come in the large ones now, they used to make little chocolate-chip sized ones, but now it's just the bigger ones. Pastel pink, green, and yellow. My absolute favorite, but hard to find sometimes.

You know, that is so weird, I just found that article a few days ago! It didn't surprise me, though. I pretty much stopped shopping at dollar stores because a lot of them will have low prices, but then the amount of product you get is tiny. Like this candy is only $1.25, but there's like 5 pieces in the bag. Or this cleaning product is only $2.50 but the bottle is small and not even all the way full. I pretty much just go to Dollar General for a few snack items I can't find elsewhere. But thanks for the link! It's worth sharing as much as possible, because they have some really slimy tactics going on.

All of them. But I love candy canes and peppermint bark a lot.

All the Lindt Lindor flavours. Then there are those Lindt Christmas Almonds which are almonds suuùuper thinly coated with sugar coated in christmasy spiced chocolate. They've gotten ungodly expensive though.
And of course all our traditional Christmas cookies, even though it's a lot of work to bake them.

Pretty much anything with chocolate and/or marzipan but NO chocolate mint.
