In more recent years, I'm much less of a stickler for period accuracy, so it's not so much the look of the film that has me not looking forward to this film adaptation.

It's more that the director's works have been really disappointing. I always want to like them a lot more than I do.

Her films always have great visuals, fairly good acting work by good actors, and the music for her films tend to be pretty good...but her films come off super underbaked. And what adds to the frustration is that the underwritten characters with underwritten motives seems to be intentional.

I also hate the approach of doing something provocative in their films, because it feels so heavily emphasized about how out there and monocle popping the stunt is, but there isn't much there outside of doing something that will shock the audience upon first viewing.
It feels intentional and lazy.

So I'm completely the wrong person for this. I think I am the target audience, but given how I wanted to like the director's other works but they turned out super disappointing I know that m, I'm going to skip out on this.
