My previous secret: the Hugo and Nebula awards are bullshit. I changed my mind. All award shows are bullshit, so there's no reason to get mad.

Well, yeah, but I'm curious as to what inspired you to realize. I wouldn't think it was the Golden Globes noms because there have always been dubious Golden Globes nods.

It was reading about the history of the Oscars. Stuff like Driving Miss Daisy beating Do the Right Thing.

ayrt

Gotcha. Yeah, the Oscars are a mess, Shakespeare in Love over Saving Private Ryan, Crash over Brokeback Mountain, the sheer number of reparation awards (let's award this to you for this movie because we should have done it for that other movie).

I agree. I used to love watching the awards shows too, threw watch parties. But somewhere in my late 20s I just kind of realized how bullshit it all is???

When the awards shows get it right it feels great/gratifying, but through the years seeing all the nominees and awards, it really is more about who bought their nomination/award or networked correctly.
