Have you gotten yours done?

Can't afford gifts this year.

Mostly yes. I still need to get something for my aunt and cousin since they are visiting right after Christmas.

I don't have much to do, but I have to get to it soon.

We do Secret Santa with rules to keep it small: under $25, regifted, or consumable. Still don't know which I'm going to go with. I sometimes bake something, but it feels like a bit of an impersonal cop-out. Then again, I feel like no one needs more little bits of nonsense.

I also have to do some ingredients shopping for the cake and cookies I've been asked to make for Christmas dessert.

I did already buy something (small but hopefully useful) for my father's mid-December birthday.

Nooo 😭 I have a couple of gifts bought but I am so stumped on what to get people this year. I usually come up with ideas but just drawing a blank this yeat.

I have one friend that just has no hobbies or interests outside of fandom and doesn't really do fandom merch so they are so hard to buy for. In the past I've bought them computer stuff (nice headphones, speakers, mics, accessories for their desk, etc) but they don't really need any more so now I am stumped.

A really cool candle? Or some cookies/candy?

Hates candles and diabetic. 😫 She is honestly the hardest person to buy for! I may just go for fun/funny gifts that I know she won't use but we'll get a laugh out of when opening and exchanging giftd.

How about an easy plant?

How about some gloves? You could get a cute knit pair that has some colors reminiscent of a favorite fandom. Subtle fandom nods can be so much fun! If they’re diabetic, the gloves could be very useful for keeping blood flow regulated.

Are they interested in any cause that you could donate to a charity in their name?

If they're on DW, paid time?

Thinking of ideas to diy for small useful gifts

I'd love to hear about anything you're considering. Small + useful + homemade is my perfect trifecta for giving gifts, but I find it's hard to come up with good ideas.

I am putting together a few "summer pot" bags of dried fruit and herbs for a few if my family members. 90% stuff I already had though I did have to dehydrate the fruit.

I can't find the exact site I used for the recipes but here is an example with a few different ones

Yes! Only things left are finishing off the wrapping of presents and getting a fancy box of chocolates (for myself to enjoy) because I haven't gone to my fav chocolate place yet this season.

Yes but tbf I only had to buy a few things, including gifts for the pets. My major accomplishment was getting the bulk grocery shopping done today. Other than some produce, we have all the groceries we need for the next six weeks or so.

Halfway. I have something coming in the mail tomorrow, but I'm stumped on gifts for other people. Costs have been fucking insane lately and I can't do last minute shopping when I'm working 40hr on Christmas week.

Nope, stopped that years ago.

I find it such a relief. I really like that I don't have to get everyone gifts and I don't miss getting gifts at all.

Re: Christmas Shopping

(Anonymous) 2025-12-11 03:21 am (UTC)(link)
Good for you if that makes you happy! We have one family member that hates getting and giving gifts and not getting anything from them was fine but it was so hard for the gift givers to transition to stop getting him stuff! We have managed it though and he says he is happy.

(Anonymous) 2025-12-11 03:27 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, mostly. I just wish I had more money to spend on people. Not that they aren't grateful, it's just that it's been a tough year for my family and I'd like to be able to do more for them.

Re: Christmas Shopping

(Anonymous) 2025-12-11 05:00 am (UTC)(link)
I'm almost done. I struggle to come up with any good ideas for my parents, because they have more money than I do, they never want anything and insist I not buy them anything, and they don't value sentimental gifts, homemade gifts, or experiences, either. :(

Re: Christmas Shopping

(Anonymous) 2025-12-11 05:34 am (UTC)(link)
Most of it. But if I don't shop anymore, I should be OK. I just need to wrap the presents and write the cards.

Re: Christmas Shopping

(Anonymous) 2025-12-11 05:34 am (UTC)(link)
Just need to get gift cards for my eldest nephews and I'm done. I'm so glad we don't lucky dip for the adult family member's names anymore. I don't feel like celebrating anyway due to dad passing but I'll grin and bear it ig

Re: Christmas Shopping

(Anonymous) 2025-12-11 03:39 pm (UTC)(link)
I made everything this year, so yes. They just need wrapped.

Yeah, I took the opportunity of being in another country to get things, especially since a lot of people won't ship here b/c the stupid tariffs.
