Sometimes that type of critique comes across as internalized homophobia, in other fandoms I've definitely felt that way about antis ("This slash ship between a 25 year old and 30 year old has a predatory age gap!"). You have a point though that it's not coming from people who actually consider themselves conservatives.

AYRT, that's a good point. Most antis in my experience are LGBT, but when they target consensual gay ships as "problematic" more often (see the 25 x 30 year old example), it does come off as internalized.

I'm not sure if the ship discourse from the Hellaverse hatedom veers into internalized hatred territory, but I don't pay attention to the ship wars. If anything I've seen people criticizing the biphobia with the affair plot in Helluva Boss, but I thought that show was boring and didn't finish it. No opinions about that. It's mainly season one's writing I had issues with and wanted to read critical posts about, but maybe the second rectifies it.

Also that reminds me of the uproar about Angel Dust being bad/offensive rep despite a lot of people who are victims of SA and similar abuse have come out to say he's really good and refreshing rep compared to other SA victim characters in media.

But a lot of people who hate Hazbin seem to shout over the people who take comfort from Angel and his character and portrayal

Imo Angel shows a lot of the messy but honest sides of it and his arc shows his struggle focused on him.

Funny you mentioned that, I used to think Angel was bad gay man rep in the pilot, but really good SA survivor rep. That was one of the things I really liked about S1, so I can respect fem gay men who find him relatable now. A lot of antis really want to be the only spokespeople of their own.

At first I really didn't like his character because I felt like he was a caricature of men like me, but then I started to really appreciate him. I think I'm sensitive because of seeing so many homophobic depictions of GNC gay guys and assuming this would be another one.

I am a lot like him (though obviously he's an over the top cartoon character in a magical world with super unrealistic elements, LOL), and I found it really refreshing and comforting how he's written and how he's treated by his friends. Idk, I like that he's shown as sexy, that his problems are taken seriously, that his story shows good and bad sides of sexuality, and that he gets to be a silly character without it being homophobic mockery. I don't know if I'm wording this too well because it's kind of personal but yeah I ended up really loving him after a few episodes.
