I recently got one of my fandom friends who is a devout Howard/Vince shipper to watch Red Dwarf and she became hooked. And she also saw the similarities.
The Boosh do owe a lot to RD which I wish they'd throw a mention to now and then. They credit Monty Python, the Goodies and Young Ones - if they haven't taken any inspiration (aka 'borrowing' ideas) from Red Dwarf then I'll eat my hat. :P

I've noticed a few things that I think are definite hat-tips to RD, or are at least really reminiscent of them.
From the live show, there's a scene where Bollo listens to Naboo's heartbeat, and gets techno-beat -- similar scene with the Cat in season 8, though personally I think the Boosh did it better. There's also a live scene where Howard compares Vince to a budgie and then Vince tries to fly at his own reflection, which was very Catlike to me. Oh, and in the Legend of Old Gregg when they walk into the pub and everyone looks at them and Howard is like "Let me handle this" and goes off to order drinks ... so "Gunmen of the Apocalypse". I swear there have been more, but that's what I can remember.

Definitely watch more Boosh. Lister/Rimmer still has lots of appeal to me, but it's awesome to have Howince on the side. :P Plus, the fantastic thing about Boosh is that Noel and Julian have been in so many other things together playing different, but still oh-so-similar characters, that you get to have cross-fandom pairings! Like this! (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5iZBWLs8owE) And don't even get me started on Mint Royale ... I love that people have written multi-story epics based on 3 minute music video.

The relationship they had, especially in the early years, was one of the best parts of the show: where here's these two people who sort of can't stand each other but also willingly hang out together all the time anyway. But yeah, as the show went on, either their relationship changed or the show's focus on it shifted or something, because all the scenes with them spending all night drinking together or playing AR games together or doing anything together except being crabby and mean in a humorous fashion became few and far between, and it mostly just looked like active dislike.
Maybe that's why I'm so jealous of these new guys, they seem to get along much better despite simultaneously seeming to find each other unbearable.

This was actually due to Craig Charles and Chris Barrie's relationship off-screen. They were sort of okay in the first couple of series but after that really began to rub up against each other and said later that filming things like the bunk scenes just became unbearable for everyone involved, so they did a lot more group scenes and pairing of other characters. During around series six or seven they kind of reconciled, and you can see a change in the dynamic in the later ones [although the whole series then are different because of the lack of audience in seven, Kochanski, etc].

Holly brought his consciousness back under the mistaken assumption that the two cared about each other when Rimmer was alive and it's just not so. (Not until after years of flying around the universe.) I got the impression they just sort of tolerated each other while Rimmer was alive, whereas Howard and Vince have a genuine sort of affection.
