(Anonymous) 2025-12-18 11:56 pm (UTC)(link)I absolutely get what you say about the sex scenes but I do think people tend to focus too much on them. Are they a cringe 90s yaoi trope filled mess? Yes. Are there actually very few of them (and iirc all in extras that nobody HAS to read)? Also yes. Like, there are hundreds of chapters but the thing people get hung up about (positively and negatively) are around 3 chapters of extras (while one novel doesn't actually have any).
As for why it's so popular: it's because MDZS was one of the earliest FTLs that got a bigger than usual fan base (aided by the manhua getting translated as well). And people tend to really idealise the "firsts" of a certain fandom obsession, like glorifying a gateway drug lol. While I am really not on the hype train anymore myself because I found a lot of novels that I vastly prefer, I will always have a soft spot for MDZS in particular because it was the novel that got me into the CN webnovel genre in the first place.
