Agreed. I've had encounters where people talk to any new fandom members like try hard wannabes who can never be accepted. And it's just like, do you want people in the fandom or is this your space to be a gatekeeper?
I find people like that way more insufferable than new fans who are trying too hard to be an expert. That can be annoying, but most of these folks either go away or their enthusiasm cools down.
The gatekeepers always treat others like crap until their butt is kissed the right way.
