I only buy anime/manga merch if it's flat.

Prints, artbooks, postcards, stickers.. But even better if it's functional, like a notebook or a wall calendar.

Figurines and plushies just take up space and collect dust, no matter how detailed or well made they are.

I feel you! I do have an exception for art books and comics, though. I like wasting time rereading my favourite series or just looking at pretty pictures.
However it's been years since I last bought any merch. I think I'm just over collecting in general. Or maybe I'm old and just don't enjoy new media with the same passion as before.

I get you. As I've gotten older, I've gotten a lot more selective about what I'm willing to buy/keep in my home. I can't do too much clutter.

I'd kill for more functional 2D in my fandoms, I can't even find calendars anymore. Figures do collect dust but they're easier to find, and I'm picky about quality so I don't just buy all of them - and there's some ugly shit out there, miss me with all of that.

The issue in our home is wall space. We just do not have enough walls to hang art, framed or just stickied up. We currently have six or seven relatively small framed posters (yknow the cheap thin plastic frames) that have no home, and an entire collection of 20 or so old anime wallscrolls that are way too huge to hang anywhere. At least figures can go on shelves which also contain books, dvds, games, appliances, etc. Sigh, maybe we just need a bigger house.

? Even flat things collect dust. I generally buy merch only if I know I have a use for it, even if that use is just on a shelf to look at as it collects dust.
