I don't think The Mighty Nein is as good as Vox Machina. The characters are certainly less memorable for a start. Half a season in and I'm still struggling to remember TMN character names.

I just started watching this yesterday!

And I was actually thinking that so far I liked it better than Vox Machina cartoon. However I did follow the Mighty Nein campaign so I'm not going in blind, which is sounds like maybe you did? And I imagine that could change quite a bit of the experience. I was really enjoying how they were introducing the characters and the whole overarching beacon plotline.

ahh plus 1? I never watched/followed the campaigns but my roommate does. I found Vox Machina capable of following a linear storyline, but Mighty Nein really really relies on in-jokes from the podcast to make sense.

I still don't like any of it at all but at least I have context.

I don't do homework for my Saturday morning cartoons. It is the opposite of what they are for.

Weird take

This is not a Saturday morning cartoon.

It is if you watch it on Saturday mornings with a bowl of Frosted Flakes.

to be fair to the source, OP, I would not be even slightly shocked that the critrole people were more all-in on the portrayal of their first/favorite OCs compared to their second-tier OCs. otoh they literally did just do a cringey LARP cosplay wedding for the Mighty Nein characters at a recent con, so I feel like the VAs right now are walking several fine lines of IDing with their characters, creating a narrative satisfying to people who didn't follow the DnD sessions, writing an anime, and jesus fuck even I can't keep up with what's going on.

(but I definitely consider the LARP wedding ultimate cringe and reason why these people need to just fucking stop for ten minutes and decide what they want their Brand to be)

I mean that was not the first dnd character wedding they've done.

(Anonymous) 2025-12-24 01:40 am (UTC)(link)
It was a full live oneshot like they've done several times before, with fancy outfits and everything. Just this time the fancy outfits were wedding-themed because they were (for the second time) having a wedding-themed oneshot.

oh god they've done this before? my cringe is doubled.

like, omg. I was a tween yaoi wedding cosplay funsies person in 2004, I've been there and done the cringe. these fucking adults are doing what children did except for real and for money and clicks and likes? oh god I'm so embarrassed second-hand. I'm out, so out, nope nope this is gross and stupid and cringey and wow I'm embarrassed for all of you now.

(Anonymous) 2025-12-24 12:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Haha what the hell is wrong with you? This take is hilarious.

(Anonymous) 2025-12-24 12:40 pm (UTC)(link)
AYRT yeah it clearly will shock you to know that this group of adults has in fact been playing games for public entertainment for over a decade, and has been making absolute bank doing it. If they want to play dress-up for their packed-house live shows, they sure the fuck can.

(Anonymous) 2025-12-24 02:58 am (UTC)(link)
I don't understand your statement about them not knowing what their brand is. The latest live show, the one you are calling the LARP wedding, wasn't anything new or out of the norm for them. In fact it was pretty on brand. They seem to know exactly what they're doing and have been doing it for awhile.

I get if it isn't your thing or you find them cringey in general, but I don't really see how this one episode was over the top or out of the norm.

Huh, that's kind of opposite from my experience as someone who's only getting into the live play in c4 but has started watching Vox Machina and thus far has only learned about the Mighty Nein via tumblr-- I know who all the MN characters are just from what my friends have posted about them. Meanwhile, watching Vox Machina, it took me kind of a while to be able to keep Vax and Vex straight in my mind. Not that I think either campaign is better or worse-- I haven't finished the one or seen the other, so I can't speak to that. Just that I've had a different experience.
