Agreed.

And TBH I still know a lot of people who would say/not have an issue with someone saying they don't want to date and friend's "fat sister", especially if they don't think the sister is around to hear the cruel words.

Society still hates fatness, it's just learning to be more performative during more public situations. But hate for fatness is barely under the surface.

The fact is that you are never going to get people not to dislike fatness, because it signals unhealthiness, and you're never going to get everyone to be okay with dating a fat person (demanding that people find certain things attractive is always a losing proposition. The only solution is completely removing choice from the equation and having arranged relationships for everyone). People understanding that fat people deserve consideration, empathy, and dignity, and that it's rude to speak ill of them, is a good thing, and it's also the endpoint.
