I hate when people refer to SNL sketches as "skits".

I don't have any idea if the more recent casts felt this way or not but the original SNL cast didn't like the word "skit" either. They said it was (in their words) "too Carol Burnett".

I can’t answer this properly, but I do know there are a set of people (who often think of themselves as serious about comedy) who feel strongly about this distinction.

My sense is that they consider “skits” to be something that children do.
