I wish I could find the same joy in Miriam Margolyes as everyone else seems to. Progressive! Cheeky! Full of life! Instead I can't help thinking about how much I would hate being near her in any setting.

Right, that “creamed in my knickers comment”. A good example.

I feel like a square for not liking it because older women should be able to be blunt about sex and attraction. Still, there’s something about how she does it that I really dislike. Maybe partially how pleased she seems with herself or goes out of her way to say things rudely.

She says stuff that I think is rude and not funny in the guise of “telling it like it is” and being a cheeky, fun older woman.

Apparently a lot of other people do find her funny and charmingly blunt.

I’m not really a fan either. I guess it’s broadly good to have an older left-wing lesbian who says things like she does, but I don’t enjoy seeing her on shows like Graham Norton.

Finally, finally someone cannot stand this woman like me.

She reminds me a lot of my high school drama teacher. She was a good teacher but a HUGE bitch. Like, I learned to have passion for theater work and acting from her, but she was such a bitch when she didn't need to be.

She has her cheeky old lady moments, but honestly... I don't like her because she reminds me of my father, who's about the same age. He also likes to put on that jolly old man demeanor, but he's got a mean streak and he likes to say nasty things to people while grinning and expecting to be given a pass because he's a senior citizen. Like no, it's not witty to call someone fat and ugly just because you're chuckling while you do it. An old asshole is still an asshole.

I've seen enough interviews with Miriam Margolyes where it's clear she's putting on this befuddled old lady routine just so she can say stuff she wouldn't get away with otherwise. It's weird that people just let her do it, though.

A hundred percent agree. I can enjoy her from a distance but while she has kind moments I don't think she's a kind person. I would find her insufferable.
