Transcript – Moana

I LOVE Moana. I'm not a Disney person and most of the Disney movies from this century have been
very meh in my eyes. But I do LOVE Moana.

But why the FLYING FUCK do we need a remake of a movie that isn't even a decade old?!?!?!

Money and/or IP protection.

I subscribe to the theory the Rock DEMANDED it.

From Schafrillas' video:

"Given the fact that The Rock was the one who announced this, a ton of people are speculating that he really pushed for this live-action remake to happen because of the commercial failure of Black Adam and the cancellation of all the DC products that he wanted to be a part of.

I don’t really follow the DCEU, but it seems like The Rock was really pushing for a lot of it to revolve around Black Adam. Except the movie bombed and got terrible reviews and now James Gunn is completely in charge and he likes making good movies, so it looks like The Rock’s little vanity project of a cinematic universe crashed and burned.

It’s been pretty well-documented that he’s one of the most egotistical people in Hollywood. Again, I wouldn’t really know. I don’t follow much of what he does outside of this one Disney movie I liked that happened to have him in it.

Well, the working theory from a lot of people is that he needs something to stroke his ego and make him a big star again, so he really insisted that Disney desecrate one of their more popular recent movies.

It all adds up. He likes fame. Disney likes money. It’s a win-win for everyone except people with brains. "

I always ask, "What is something new we can gain from a live action/new adaptation?" when I come across the new thing. Most times it's really just about money.
Shame because I really like Moana, but seeing how quickly it's turned into a cheap cash grab for Disney is pretty sad.

Well considering how they put the Moana tv series into the trash and turned it into the sequel movie, and how Disney likes keeping their IPs, it's just about cash.

Disney probably lost something like 0.001% of their total worth when Kimmel got temporarily cancelled, so they need your money so that they can keep kissing the ring. Just kidding, they want your money either way. And you'll give it to them.

(Anonymous) 2025-12-26 12:54 am (UTC)(link)
Bitch please, speak for yourself 😂 You might give them money, but I'm sure as hell not going to.

The Moana live action movie was announced like 2 years ago.

(Anonymous) 2025-12-26 01:07 am (UTC)(link)
Yes it’s a cash grab but I’m perfectly ok with this one tbh. It gave a lot people well paid work that they wouldn’t get anywhere else and it helps bolster their resumes. It’s an easier LA remake to either enjoy or ignore than most of the others they’ve done and the target audience loved it.

You know what really bugs me about this?

Is that this "live action" remake looks about 90% cgi.

Yeah, that's how a lot of the live action adaptations have been like and they are fuckass uglyass movies. Same for a lot of tv shows. They can use computers to create all sorts of things but it still looks fake/off, so I'm spending the entire time watching feeling the uncanny valley with the visuals. It can look "pretty/realistic", but ultimately it just creates an extremely ugly film because you just cannot shake off the feeling of the uncanny valley.

Ugh it is awful! I would actually think it would be pretty cool if they went with practical effects and an actual live action movie. Team up with the people who do muppets or something and it could be amazing. But it's easier to churn out cgi crap and I assume cheaper and kids don't really care so it'll sell.
