I like both but composition is what will make or break either. Too many candids have busy backgrounds and it’s all just very loud and the photographer is too far away from their subject. Oddly, I prefer candida taken outdoors away from built up areas but I prefer posed portraits indoors against a backdrop. The super popular treats that won’t die, “let’s go out into the field and get Lyme disease!” photo shoots looks so stupid to me. I do think a lot of that is down to the skill of the photographers; most are self taught and don’t always make the best choices for timing the light.
