Things you don't need/won't buy next year

(Anonymous) 2025-12-29 11:40 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm trying to reduce my spending in 2026, and I have seen a trend of people sharing the stuff that they AREN'T going to buy next year. What are some of your things you are stocked up on or don't want to waste money on?

This is kind of a weird one, but hand sanitizer. I have, like, 8,000 little bottle of hand sanitizer. I am absolutely stocked up for a long time. In fact, I'm probably going to give some of it away.

Body wash, body soap, shower gel, etc. I go through it slowly and I have quite a few bottles of it, definitely enough for next year.

Pens. I love pens, and I've bought way too many. I don't need any pens for AT LEAST a year.

Electronics (computer, tablet, laptop, phone, consoles, etc), unless one of my current ones dies or is lost or broken. I am good on all of that stuff and do not need to upgrade any of it next year.

Lip balm. I am a lip balm fiend and am eternally on the quest for the perfect holy grail lip balm, but I've accumulated quite a little stash at this point, so I need to hold off on buying more until I work down what I have now. And I have enough to cover next year.

Jewelry! I have a good variety of decent-to-nice pieces, and should hold off on buying more.

With you on body wash. Between ones I bought myself and ones I was gifted, I'm all set for at least a year.

Oh same. It is my one vice, every time I smell one I like, I have to buy it even though I have a huge backlog.

Blind boxes. I bought way too many of them this year.

I feel called out. I have a whole cupboard of yarn but I'm always like "let me stop in and see if anything on sale calls to me."

I'm calling myself out! I have so much unused yarn. 😭

Where does one even buy yarn now?

Michael's and a local yarn store for me. At least local to my sister.

Jimmy Beans, The Woolly Thistle, MDK, Purl Soho, WEBS, Knit Picks, just to name a few. There are a lot of terrific places to buy yarn online.

I'm going to TRY to use the stash first, but I can't make that kind of a promise.

I hear you. My stash is STABLE (stash acquired beyond life expectancy), but then someone comes out with something new…

Quick question: you crochet, right? I started getting into a few weeks ago and started making simple star patterns for Christmas, but now I'm out of ideas and places to look for for free patterns. I'm not looking for anything fancy, just something to do while relaxing in the evening.

Do you have any recommendations? I found my stars on a YouTube channel but that's semi-helpful as I can't really follow a video well. I really need a written pattern to know what I'm supposed to be doing.

Lotion, contact solution, shampoo/conditioner, soap, paper towels, tissue... thank you, Costco.

Literally any product that Bath and Body Works sells. Candles, febreze type air spray, body wash, perfume, lotion, soap, wall plug fragrances, car scent things. Even the little cosmetics bags, I do not need. I guess actually I will need hand soap at some point because I'm getting a little low on that but every other type of stuff they sell, somebody needs to stop me from buying.

I don't overspend

(Anonymous) 2025-12-30 12:57 am (UTC)(link)
m&ms, schar chocolate chip cookies and snickers are the things I can do without.

(Anonymous) 2025-12-30 01:03 am (UTC)(link)
yeah it's basically the candy and junkfood that I don't need for me too. I'm pretty budget conscious otherwise.

It's empty calories, but it's adictive empty calories unfortunately.

2026 is the year I reuse/upcycle literally everything but groceries. Seriously fuck consumerism. It's obvious that if you make under $200K/year, you're nothing but an 'eater' at this point and irrelevant to the US economy at large.

Also will not be buying meat, and I'll be watching grocery expenses carefully. I'm legit engaging in depression era frugality out of pure spite at this point because I'm sick of the endless excuses why everything costs nearly 30% more than it did 5 years ago.

Re: Things you don't need/won't buy next year

(Anonymous) 2025-12-30 01:21 am (UTC)(link)
For me I just need to spend more time considering purchases before I make them. The vast majority of my spending is groceries or household consumables but I do have a tendency to impulsively get into a new hobby or redecorate a room or part of the house. And I always go way overboard when I do that stuff.

I'm also trying to reduce my spending in 2026, but mostly because its been my way of dealing with my grief after we lost dad earlier this year. Mostly talking about junk food and useless items that don't have a function (ie blind box toys).

I already did it this year and will continue not to spend any more money on Genshin Impact. Not that I ever spent a huge amount but I didn't buy any of the ingame currency or monthly whatever and didn't miss anything. F2p baby.
