US health insurance

(Anonymous) 2025-12-30 12:48 am (UTC)(link)
Deadline is fast approaching and I don't know how to choose health insurance. The one I chose last year ended up being trash so I definitely need a new plan but they are all so confusing and expensive and I have no idea what I'm doing. I hate it. I wish I could go without but I have a lot of health problems and can't really afford not to have any insurance.

I just want someone to do it for me or tell me what to do. /whine

Man just the title of this comment spiked my blood pressure, I swear. I spent like 6-8 hours trying to figure out which one was best. It felt like a shot in the dark even after spending all that time on it. It's literally the worst shit.

I was trying to get ahead of the deadline and signed in a month ago to see what my options are but I got so overwhelmed I just gave up. I can't afford the good plans but I also can't afford the crap plans because they cost almost as much but don't cover anything!

I hate this country so much some days. If I could go back and do it again I'd get a degree and try to leave, but as it is I'm 40 with no degree and a basic poor working stiff so no country is letting me in.

I had the exact same experience! Like. All of the plans available to me are bad, frankly. Expensive and bad. Like you said, the cheaper ones really aren't much cheaper, and then they don't cover jack shit, it's an impossible nightmare to try to figure out.

And I feel you, I'd like to leave too, but where the fuck would I go? Even with a degree I don't feel like I can just up and move somewhere else, they don't want us, and it would be so difficult to leave my family. It just SUCKS that it's the way it is when it really, really doesn't have to be.

Just terminate coverage and hope for the best? That's what I did.

I'm on depression meds, but those are cheaper out of pocket than a monthly insurance payment plus deductible.

No preventive care, so when I feel ill, I just soldier through on OTCs and honestly hope I die quickly if it's something serious.

Honestly I went years without insurance just because fuck it, that's why, but in the last 5 years or so my body has been falling apart and I was starting down the medical debt pathway and needed insurance. It sucks.

I wish my psych meds were cheaper out of pocket!

Do you have a doctor that has been really good? If yes, choose a plan that includes them and that you can afford.

Try an assistant or agent. They help for free with Marketplace stuff, maybe they can give you some guidelines that will help.
It all sucks.

Good luck!
