I'm ashamed I was ever openly into selfshipping. The community is terrible.

Even though I've moved on to making OCs that are 100% not me, the baggage of sharing them is still there. I feel sad I can't post it, but I just don't want people to associate me with them anymore.

What kind of community is there around selfshipping?

Every time it comes up, I feel like I’m missing something because from what I see, character/reader fanfic is pretty common, but that doesn’t imply to me that the reader or writer is actively shipping themself with the character in question.

I know there’s lots of shipping outside of fic, I’m just less familiar with that.

Ouch, I relate anon. Don't want to get into it, but... ouch.

OTOH I don't think you should let "what people might think" get in the way of openly sharing your OCs. If someone's going to have a knee-jerk assumption over canon/OC that's divorced from self-inserts, they sound judgmental and worth blocking if possible.

When I see the term selfshipping, I tend to think more about shipping a character with another version of themselves.

I still enjoy some self-shipping, was never open about it thought, and I also wouldn't touch the community with an 10 ft pole. I'm also a OC haver.

I don't think you should feel ashamed, whether you're still into it or not, you aren't represented by the community. I would go ahead and post about your OCs, some may make assumptions, but it's on them, just have fun and maybe a community that actually cares will pop up.
Believe me, sharing OCs is so much fun, even if no one cares, just sharing is very freeing and gets you brainstorming around them a lot more.

Honestly...yeah. I write selfship fics but don't share. And if I do, it's anon and I don't mingle. I post anon and don't engage beyond that.

/obligatory "this is not my first language thus I may be misreading tone" disclaimer.

Not identifying with fantasy creatures is one thing (personal taste, fair enough), but something about how the rest is put... I don't game, so maybe I'm wrong about possibilities (e.g. I'm assuming if you're playing as a vampire games are more complex than to constrained you to only acting "evil" and that even the villain role has some choice involved) but something about about "they are only monsters" is pretty much... Fantastic racism? Especially since in most lore I know these beings least *start* human / have human aspects where it could be cool to explore hybridity / morality (survival of self vs ethics) / identity? I'd understand not wanting to play the villain in a game, or not liking particular genres, but reducing all that potential to "simply monsters" is really ... Well, the kindest interpretation I have is a lack of imagination.

As to the "only human in a human body" - I have sympathy again for OP not being into the scifi or body horror aspects and maybe I'm misreading the intent here, but something about "no body = not human" is uncomfortably close to arguing that a paralyzed person is somehow less "human" than someone able-bodied....

Probably I'm way over thinking things :/
