i remember originally wishing the movies were a tv show instead so the books could have been more fleshed out, but i was also perfectly okay with the movies. so i understand the reason behind it, but it feels very too little too late. so many people have moved on, and you're right, there are way better books out there deserving of an adaptation that this money, time, and effort could be put into instead. especially when we all know it's going to absolutely tank

I don't think it's going to tank. Many people don't know/don't care about the extent of JKR's transphobia. They released the first two books as full-cast audiobooks recently and they are the top two slots on the Audible popularity chart. I'm sure the TV show is going to be extremely successful.

NAYRT - I'm not even sure people who aren't in fandom spaces even realize JKR's this bad. Some do, but most just think of her as the woman who wrote those books they loved in elementary school.

Most people don't know/care because if you start to tell them anything about what she's done, they'll get so defensive and shut you down instantly, telling you you're overreacting and that they're allowed to like a book without agreeing with the author's opinions.

I'm not even talking about going up to someone with an HP shirt and screaming in their face, I'm talking about saying "I like HP too, but I don't feel comfortable supporting the franchise anymore because JK Rowling..."

Ugh, at this point she has kind of turned into a cartoon villain. It's not anything small or subtle anymore. So if people are sticking their fingers in their ears and going LA LA LA I CAN'T HEAR YOU that says a lot about them.

This. In the beginning I could get not seeing or believing it. But now? She's basically said that her current primary motivation in life, over anything including actually helping any cis women, is hurting trans people.

Why am I imagining some story where she managed, IRL, to summon her Patronus... and snapped mentally when it turned out to be a spotted hyena?

How much does the show cost? There will be an audience, yes, but the Harry Potter franchise just doesn't have the hype surrounding it as it used to. Depending on how much money they're pumping into the show, they made get a rude awakening.
