Secrets you don't want to make...

(Anonymous) 2026-01-09 10:31 pm (UTC)(link)
... but you wouldn't mind if someone else made them for you! As always, including the fandom and full character names is a big help, and while I'm definitely not the world's greatest expert at secret design, I'll try my best. Please note that long comment secrets can be difficult to make with a good end result. Most of the time, I'll give it a shot but might not be able to make secrets where the text is so lengthy that I can't fit it into the limited space.

I'm trying something new with the comment secret thread and extending the deadline to comment until Monday's post goes up. I'll monitor this thread until then, and hope the extra day will be more helpful for everyone.

Cheers,

a secret maker

P.S. Please don't worry if you've submitted a secret and it hasn't been posted yet. I usually post these threads before running out of the previous batch of secrets to get a head start on the next batch.

I actually prefer the Hays Code-induced fate of Rebecca in the 1940 Rebecca to what happens in the book or later adaptations. It feels way less icky knowing Max didn’t actually manage to kill her when she was goading him to do it.

I like seeing unquestioned sibling bed-sharing in media, especially with older kids and adults. And no, it's not a kink thing because it's not kinky. It's normal and I want to see it represented as such.

Some of us grew up poor and didn't have the space or money for two beds. And some of us had siblings who literally couldn't sleep without someone nearby because humans are primates and primates like sleeping in a pile.

For as long as I've been watching TV, I have never liked episodes of shows involving a one-time-only character being a bully to one of the main characters.

I wish some shows/movies would bring back the old sitcom convention of having a married couple sleep in separate beds. Better yet, separate rooms. I don't understand why even well-off couples with extra space in their houses are supposed to sleep in the same bed every night. Bed sharing is one reason I don't want to get married.

I can't stand seeing beards onscreen, in a show, movie, or game. If I'm reading a book and someone has one I just imagine they don't, unless the character is an old man or a slob. I can't get past imagining how awful they must smell.

i have nothing against non-con as kink / porn or in kink / porn fic

non-con used as plot / relationship drivers in serious fic bores me to death though

cheapest, easiest, laziest way to cause drama and make antagonists pure evil without having to give them any other character traits, or make the love interest the default choice since they're the only character in the world who gives a shit about consent

i dont really get at all how some people consider a) shipping 2 blood relations that were family their whole lives, and b) shipping 2 step-siblings or step-parents/children that only met as adults or near adults, as the same kink

neither are my personal kink. i just find it confusing when people treat them as one thing because they are so obviously different to me

I firmly believe that Star Trek was made to enshrine the concept of White Man's Burden in the mind of America. And it worked.

I'm just not very sexually adventurous, and I'm sick of the rest of fandom trying to shame me for that.

I recently started writing for a small, dead fandom.

Most older fic has more hits/kudos than all of my new fic combined. This makes sense and doesn't bother me at all.

The secret?

I'm terrified that someone will start writing again, that their fic will get the same attention as before, and that the self-consciousness will make me stop wanting to write.

It's fine getting no attention when you're all alone, but what happens when you're not?

Yurio might be a skilled skater but he is such an annoying gopnik I just have no sympathy for him

(Fandom: Marriage Toxin)

I doubt it’ll ever happen, but I really want Gero to end up with Kinosaki at the end of Marriage Toxin. I love their dynamic and I’m a big fan of the “first girl wins” trope, even when the girl’s actually a guy.

I unironically wish I could get into Gacha.

The fandoms for ZZZ and Uma Musume look so fun, and the characters so pretty and funny, I feel like I'm someone invited to a group I know nothing about whenever I see fanart and fanfic of characters I like from those canons.

Stupidly, it's not even about a risk of gacha/gambling addiction. It's because I end up getting confused by the game mechanics, the slow tutorials, the different types of currencies, and looooooong dialogue trees, that I end up turned off.

Star Trek and Star Wars fans share one key aspect, both franchise’s modern fanbase seem to actively hate the original material that the franchises were born from.

I kinda understand early seasons Gul Dukat. I'm not down with the mass murder, ideally, but if you want to live a comfortable and secure life then you gotta play nice with the society you find yourselves in. You gotta do what you gotta do to get by. Later seasons religious nutter Dukat, that is a different story.

Now where is my statue, goddammit!?

I kinda miss those goofy little skits fanficcers used to put at the start and end of each fic where they interacted with the characters from the fic. They were fun. Proof that we took ourselves a lot less seriously than the current po-faced lot do.

I hope GRRM never finishes Winds of Winter. It is clear he has run out of story in his head to tell. I've seen what happens when an author has clearly ran out of story to tell with their characters, but feels they have to keep pumping out books anyway by rote (looking at you, Briam Lumley and the Necroscope stuff after Vampire World, looking at you) and it ain't great. George, quit while you are behind.

[Eurovision 2025, Malta]

I am so tired of the Eurovision youtubers still playing it like the EBU were overreactionery dumb-dumbs who censored a perfectly innocent maltese word. No, the word was never "singing", it was always "cunt" and everyone, especially Miriana herself, knew it. 1: it's the only "maltese" word in the entire song. 2: the song is not about singing at all. 3: "serving cunt" is a well-known expression, "serving singing" is gibberish. Bonus: there's crotch imagery all over the GF performance.
Please stop insulting everyone's intelligence - Miriana tried to get around the "no cuss words" rule and she failed. That's it.

After debating a lot with myself whether or not to watch Tron:Ares (because I loved Legacy and did only hear negative things about Ares) a friend finally talked me into it and... well. It certainly was a movie.
That's just about all I can say about it. It certainly wasn't good but it also wasn't actually bad enough to hate it. It was so incredibly bland. In fact, it was so forgettably bland that I barely remember key scenes less than a week after watching it. Even the soundtrack wasn't memorable at all to me.
To me, that's way more damning than a movie I would have hated.

Oh God. Call The Midwife just caught up with Monty Python. They were talking, without irony, about The Machine Which Goes Ping being introduced to the delivery suite. I suddenly cannot take this episode, about the very serious issue of premie babies seriously now.

Hate when creators make the protag of a canon have no personality besides 'being bullied' or 'being surrounded by assholes' or basically existing to suffer and not even react to the suffering in any entertaining way. It's even worse when the long-suffering protag acts like an asshole to everybody but the story presents itself like everyone is automatically supposed to be sympathetic to this miserable asshole because someone else is a bigger asshole.

Then they get all upset and confused when people start rooting for the bigger asshole that is at least entertaining about it.

It's like they forget fiction is not real life and the first rule of a fictional MC is to be engaging to the audience.
