I think some people prefer 'winning' an imaginary fight than they actually enjoy shipping something, and this is why I think some sections of fandom are Like That.

So true. I'm SO sick of fanwars when both sides are as bad as each other, but both think they're the 'good' fans because they're 'protecting' their ship, and if you point this out, then you're a 'bad' fan.

Yay ship manifesto people, nay ship war people

(Anonymous) 2026-01-13 11:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh word, it really is like that with some shippers, they don't want to enjoy the ship they want to win against other shippers and I just... don't get it.

(Anonymous) 2026-01-13 11:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Yup. Along with those people who give up on the whole thing when they "lose" shipping by their ship not becoming canon. Like... that's not what we're doing here, people.

Right? I’ve had ships get jossed many times and I still ship them because them being canon was not my reason for being into them, it was whatever dynamic they had that pulled me in.

Ah ha, yes, I'm more likely to ship something non-canon and I've often given up on ships when they become canon because I don't like it *that* way! Especially F/M ships.

Hard agree. That's also why people try to "problematize" NOTPs instead of just going "I don't like that"...

Some of my ships were exactly that. I stopped participating in ship wars when I realized I was getting too emotionally invested.

I have ships I like, and I'll find artwork or fics, but if I get a sniff of "X Ship vs Y Ship" I nope outta there.

Agree so hard. I've peaced out of fandoms before because a small minority of loud people sucked out all the joy.

people need to stop bringing their team sports tribalism mentality into places where it doesn't belong.

(Anonymous) 2026-01-14 03:39 am (UTC)(link)
That needs to be embroidered on so many things, lmao.

But how will I know that my fandom is a good fandom if I don't apply win/lose logic to every aspect of my fandom?

I have to ship the ship that wins. I have to stan the character that wins. I have to have winners at all times of my existence. How can I know I am with winners or have chosen winners of every element of their existence is not dripping with obvious indicators that they're a winner?
