Are you different online than in person? Do you have an online "persona"?

I don't think so other than being less open about my fandom stuff. I'm probably more "outgoing" online with strangers.

I am maybe a bit more forward or confident online but other than that I think I'm pretty much the same. I have trouble putting thoughts into text so I basically just type what I say out loud so talking patterns are pretty much the same as typing patterns, and I don't profess to do or know or live a way that I don't. But I've only met like two people from online, so who knows. Those two both said something about being funnier or less serious than I am online, but other than that they never said anything.

Idk it's an interesting thing to think. I don't try to be someone different online but who knows what other people are taking away from my interactions.

I'm definitely different online compared to offline, but I wouldn't call it a persona. I'm more open because text means I can get all the thoughts out rather than what I'd be able to actually say.

Sure, of course. My very formal demeanor at work is not my familiar demeanor toward my parents is not my polite demeanor toward my in-laws is not my jokey demeanor toward my partner is not my cuddly babytalk demeanor toward MY TINY PUPPY BABY PUPPpyyy is not my LFG demeanor while gaming.

Anyone who has only seen one of these might look at another and be like "are you sure this is the same person?"

My online faces are just as varied as my IRL ones depending on whether I'm there as a lurker, commenter, fan creator, moderator, organizer.

This is pretty normal.

I'm nerdy online, I don't tend to show my nerd too much in RL.

I am very much different online, but it's the opposite of a persona. I'm autistic and find speaking to be extremely difficult on a number of levels, so people I can't communicate with via text never get to see my actual personality.

I think online I am able to form my thoughts and opinions better. IRL I can be scatterbrained and reactive, can't edit myself IRL ya know?

Perhaps online I can more easily get fannish and be an intense fan. Whereas IRL I only do that in the privacy of my car or bedroom when no one is around.
