I think Heated Rivalry would be better without the graphic sex scenes.

See, I'm of the exact opposite mindset. Graphic M/F sex scenes are totally normalized these days so hell yeah, let's get more graphic M/M sex scenes and normalize that too!

OP here and I say this about graphic M/F scenes as well. I'm not a prude or anything but I just don't think all TV shows need graphic sex scenes. If I want to watch porn, I'll just go and watch some porn.

But I get your point.

Yeah, I was coming to say. It isn't all that graphic

I've seen graphic het sex scenes all my life and they bore me to tears. Bring on the graphic gay sex scenes!

I don't know how graphic this show gets, but I tend to not like graphic sex scenes in any media that isn't trying to be porn-first.

This doesn't mean that I hate that sex scenes exist, ofc they have their place in stories. But like with partial nudity vs. full frontal pornographic posing for the camera, often less is more in terms of how interesting, titillating, or communicative the scenes themselves are. The more graphic it is and the longer the scenes go, the more it distracts from the the individual story and characters and becomes 'porn' because there's only so much story or character you can convey because it's not like characters have sex in particularly unique or characteristic ways or are going to have involved dialog during.

I start skipping it out of boredom after the first or second time and wish they'd get on with it because if it isn't porn, I didn't start watching to view porn.

Why

(Anonymous) 2026-01-17 02:47 am (UTC)(link)
"I don't enjoy graphic sex scenes whether straight or queer" is a valid opinion, but it is not the SAME opinion as "the show would have been better without them"

something can be not to your exact taste but still be a valid artistic choice that contributes to the craft or themes of the piece, and arguing that it isn't is something you should present actual evidence for

and given how homophobia is inextricable from a terror of gay sex and sexuality, and the romance involves the pressures of falling in love in an often homophobic sports community, having to hide, etc, showing the actual sex, the intimacy and joy and connection of it, very much is a meaningful part of this story

tldr: own your shit and just admit you're a prude instead of pretending this is actually a matter of quality

💯

I agree completely. Sex scenes are a waste of time, imo.

(Anonymous) 2026-01-17 07:38 am (UTC)(link)
I don't go here, but the smut is part of its' appeal.

(Anonymous) 2026-01-17 01:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Kinda like saying Blade would have been better without all the graphic violence, but ok.

Have you heard of the TV Gaurdian? It censors bad words from TV shows. Clearplay is a little more intense. You can enter which kinds of graphic content you want to avoid but it's a subscription.

Its puprpose is for people to jerk off exactly to those scenes. Everything else, like forbidden love storyline etc, are just common kinks to make pwp a bit more palatable. It's not that deep to be stripped off its main attraction.
