Explanation from OP

(Anonymous) 2026-01-16 11:15 pm (UTC)(link)
The cause of her trauma? Another author's stories were more popular than hers. Yes, really.

She sounds very young and very self-absorbed, tbh. Life has a way of correcting that for most people. I also predict that she'll be back soon.

1) She's in her early 30's.

2) She's pulled that "I'm never posting again!" stunt many times over the years, so she'll definitely be back.

She sounds mentally ill. And I don't mean that as a pejorative. She sounds like she genuinely has something going on and is perceiving the world differently than us.

She sounds mentally ill.

Sadly, that's an understatement.

oh good lord, that is insufferable... like, I could summon up some sympathy for someone who was digging into a kink they'd never written before and found themselves in a bad place over it, I've been there and I wouldn't say it 'traumatized' me but I get how someone without serious trauma might mistake that kind of discomfort for it. But for it to be because someone else was popular??

I am so tired of how people online frame discomfort or having their feelings hurt as traumatic. I don't want to sound like a boomer but some people really need perspective or real problems.

Eh. While I definitely agree with you there is something wrong with this person, I think there is at least a hyperbolic/jokey sense of "traumatic" where it refers to like "harrowing experience I would not like to go through again and which I still have nightmares/random distressing recollections of" and doing a Kinktober alongside another author in the fandom and getting concrete evidence they're more popular but having to keep pushing through because you already committed to finishing/already wrote the stories does seem kinda "traumatic" in that exaggerated/jokey sense. (I know people don't like people using "traumatic" in that colloquial, non-medical sense but I also think the horse has already long left that stable.)

But yeah, if this person is complaining about this in public where the other author could see (which I assume they are?), that is INCREDIBLY gauche and lacking in self-consciousness. And the threatening to quit posting stories is just a juvenile temper tantrum. Definitely a terrible look.

In other words, not even remotely related to war vets or SA survivors. Don't drag them into this situation.

It's possible the author is being irrational and/or exaggerating, but as others have pointed out, everyone's trauma is different. Also, the suffering olympics are a stupid game where nobody wins.
