Favorite Species

What are some of the fictional species from media that you like? Or specific fictional takes on mythic creatures you like?

I'm a basic bitch that loves elves.

Me too. But honestly, the idea of immortal species fascinates me in general. Just imagining what that would do to how they view the world, what single moments are like to them, how having a species like that in a world would affect the lives of other species.

Yes, the concept of time and how different people perceive it is super interesting to me in general. Add in immortal or extra long lifespans (compared to humans) and it gets a whole new level of interesting!

Vampires would be so much more interesting if people made them act their age and not go to high school or whatever when they're 300 years old. I can't imagine going back to high school at 30 even

I think it'd be fun if you actually still looked that young. I'd go back, but I'd probably disappear and not finish too. I'd just dip in to learn (academic and culturally) and dip out when my interest waned or things got too annoying. And I definitely would never date anyone I met there.

Being surrounded by high schoolers all day sounds like a nightmare

A comedy where a vampire that is 105 years old but looks 15 being forced to attend high school and hating it and being extremely grumpy at the children would be pretty funny though

High school? I might be game to attend some college classes. But going back to high school would be a genuine nightmare.

Hard agree.

Right, if a young-bodied vampire wants to continue their education, just go to college instead! This especially bugged me in Twilight, because Edward was 17 I think, and they had money. Why keep repeating high school forever (which sounds like actual hell) instead of going to college and always studying something new and being around adults instead of all teenagers? You can even take classes at night.

Re: Favorite Species

(Anonymous) 2026-01-21 12:38 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, exactly, it's not unheard of that particularly smart people attend college at like 12 or whatever either, so even if the vampire looked particularly young they'd just assume it's a genius kid. If the genius kid then sounds and talks like an adult with other adults people would chalk it up to the genius part.

Man, THIS. That would be insane.
I also get bored of the 'woe is me, I'm a vaaaaampiiiiire!!' vampires. Go stand in the sun if it's that awful, sheesh.

Same. I had an okay time in high school and there's no trauma scarring, but I wouldn't want to relive that time. It would be so boring.

I like the idea of fairies, but I'm not sure if I'd like the ones in the popular fantasy novels of the moment.

I think I agree. The concept of fairies as in myth I like. But the fantasy version usually ends up too cutesy and closer to the Disney version.

Werewolves where they're primarily wolves in mentality with human forms, instead of humans that turn into wolves sometimes.

No one else probably remembers these but I LOVED the weird dogs from the prison place in Chronicles of Riddick.

For mythical creatures, I love werewolves and dragons.

Those dog-things were great. Of course, I was very upset when his 'pet' died.

Super-intelligent dogs (including robot K9s in this).
The Companions from Valdemar.
Sehlats from Star Trek: The Animated Series.
Fizzgig from The Dark Crystal.
The Fire Mares from Krull.

I'm still interested in vampires despite the horrible over-saturation of them in fiction. Just not in the sexy romance novel sense. Ditto fairies, I'd like to see more old school folktale stories and not just... hot toxic guys with wings and pointy ears.

Against the Storm (video game) - I love the humans! They've got these little yellow rain jacket things and they like farming and brewing and they can point out farmland! AHH! Absolute fav of the species. (2nd place is Beavers because wood + trade is a GREAT combo)
