(Anonymous) 2026-01-23 07:16 pm (UTC)(link)But yeah, I just think fandom has gotten so damn professionalized. I saw a post circulate around Tumblr a couple of months ago that was like, "I don't want to read ANY fanfic written by someone under 30" (because fic written by people over 30 is much higher-quality and who has time for fic written by teenagers with no life experience and bad writing -- I'm paraphrasing, but that was the general gist of the post), always shared by friends who agreed with the post and I'm just like, yes, I do agree fic written by 30+ year olds is the best in fandom and every 30+ year old writing fanfiction in a fandom is a gem and a gift to that fandom; I am such a writer myself. But how do you think I got to be a 30+ year old fanfic writer without being the cringe teenage fanfic writer. :| I just would NOT be the same writer I am today without people actually reading my cringy fic full of half-baked ideas and cringe-y author's notes embedded in the fic and being like "I loved this! Please write more!"
I'd take cringe fandom over professionalized fandom any day, to be honest.
