There is this youtuber whom I just cannot stand, he's baldy with a beard, and it seems like he has eleventy billion channels. I keep blocking them, but every time I do he pops back up with another two channels. I actually really like the subjects, history and geography, just I cannot stand the guy who presents them.

That is him, that is the guy! I didn't know his name, but you star Secretmaker got it anyway. I was kinda worried I hadn't been descriptive enough.

Why is he everywhere, though? I just hate his presenter style so damn much. I don't know why, but it just gets right under my skin.

Secret maker here...

It was a guess on my part, but like you, I'd noticed him everywhere on Youtube as well, even though I didn't know his name. So I googled "youtube baldy with a beard" and voilà! This is a really basic summary of what I found, but apparently the reason why he has a lot of channels is that he hires people to research and write scripts and he narrates? That's his strategy for content creation and it allows him to be EVERYWHERE. I had no idea. It's kind of funny, but sometimes I end up accidentally learning a lot when I'm looking up images or background info for peoples' comment secrets. This one was enlightening, so thank you for that!

Cheers,

a secret maker

I feel you totally. There is someone who is pretty popular who makes really interesting videos, but this guy has the most whiny voice, and I absolutely cannot stand listening to it. I feel bad because his voice is obviously not his fault, but I just had to drop the channel.

Aw. This makes me sad because I really love his videos.

(Anonymous) 2026-01-25 01:29 am (UTC)(link)
Me, too.

Same, OP. I didn't know his name, but I like the same subjects as you and the Youtube algorithm kept popping up his videos as a recommendation. I watched a few, but don't really like his style at all. It was confusing to tell YT not to recommend the channel only to see him keeping popping up again and again and again...

The one thing that annoys me about him is his tendency to not even attempt to pronounce things correctly. Sometimes it seems like he purposefully enjoys pronouncing some words wrong. Other than that, I do like his videos though. Often very informative and fun.

Eugh, that actually makes me mad just to read. If he can't even bother to try and pronounce things correctly I would trust what he says to be accurate either.

Is he possibly doing that thing where they deliberately mispronounce semi-uncommon words as engagement bait, so they'll get a bunch of comments saying "YOU SAID XYZ WRONG!!!"? Apparently that is a strategy some channels actually use.....

Not sure honestly. And he doesn't do it nearly as much as he used to.

Reddit comment:

“how long has Places existed??? and Celestium (Formerly Astrographics)???
and i know he's stopped hosting TopTenzNet, Biographics, and Geographics but The Science of Science Fiction/Science Unbound has apparently been abandoned....
the main simon channels i watch are Decoding The Unknown, Casual Criminalist, Into The Shadows plus Sideprojects and today I Found out but i havent watched them as much as i use to.
i know of, but dont or rarely watch: Brain Blaze, MegaProjects, Warographics/Warfronts, Highlight History (another channel i believe he has abandoned) Higher Learning ( also abandoned)
and im sure there are some other channels he hosts that i've missed.”

Yeah, that’s too many channels.

[personal profile] hey_hey_hey 2026-01-25 01:04 am (UTC)(link)
Why did so many channels hire him to host?

(Anonymous) 2026-01-25 01:30 am (UTC)(link)
He started all those channels.

(Anonymous) 2026-01-25 03:32 am (UTC)(link)
I'm not sure that's what happened. It sounds like they're his channels and he hosts... but he relies upon a team to do the research, writing, editing, etc. while he's the frontman.

That man either has wayy too much free time, works for free, or both.

He doesn't do the writing, he has hired writers for that. He just does the videos. And he gets a lot of money from sponsors. I guess it works for him.

(Anonymous) 2026-01-25 04:07 am (UTC)(link)
Very true. tbh I rarely use youtube these days, so I know very little about how the money side of it works. I assumed he was being hired for the channels rather than the other way around. I guess he's just milking it for all its worth while he can, cause that is a lot of channels he's throwing out there.

(Anonymous) 2026-01-25 03:33 am (UTC)(link)
I don't think that's it. He outsources a lot of the work, so he doesn't need to do it himself. Recording the videos will take some time, of course, but if you aren't writing the script, doing the editing, etc. then it's a lot less time than you think.

(Anonymous) 2026-01-25 04:12 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I assumed he was the one being hired rather than doing the hiring himself. I guess he figures he can make more money with quantity over viewership then? idk, I'm turned off him just hearing about him, overexposure is the quickest way for me to lose interest in something.
