I've always been a little jealous of people who can read and enjoy fiction! There are so few works of fiction that can keep me turning pages, and I've often felt like it was an attention span issue or an imagination issue or something. But give me a social history or biography, and I'll read until my eyes give out.

I think it just comes down to what personally interests a person, and I can't understand shaming anyone who's reading basically anything. Reading any sort of material improves the mind IMO, as opposed to watching everything play out on a screen.

But here's where I wonder... is OP one of those "audio books don't count!!" people. Because if so, that hypocrisy would be astounding to me, and I know some regulars here feel that way. And I hope they can recognize they come off every bit as condescending as your ex.
