Re: "It's a privilege to even be able to escape"
(Anonymous) 2026-01-26 02:58 pm (UTC)(link)In terms of escapism, like yeah....it IS a privilege, but in the same breath, we are allowed moments to shut the world out of our minds if we can do it.
As the world burns, we as individuals need time to simply exist. We can't survive if we spend every waking moment/any moment of free time focused on how terrible the world is.
I agree with some of the replies, maybe take a step away from certain spaces where energies are spent passing judgment on others and obsessing over how terrible the state of the world is in. I understand we have to call out fascism, we live in dangerous times.
But at the same time, it's mentally not healthy to only focus on the ills of the world. How can you build for a better world if you do not have an image of what that is?
Point to the screenshot of Frodo asking what is there to fight for and Sam passionately responding that there's some good in this world and it's worth fighting for to anyone upset that you dare take your time off work to wind down at home.
That moment means, don't give into despair. It means, take time to remember what you do appreciate and are glad is still here. Enjoy the good things that still exist, you can still fight back and do some good for your community too. Posting angry holier-than-thou posts on social media isn't effective "activism" much as some angry internet-addicted posters want to believe.
