A few! I met greghousegf in San Francisco and we went to a museum. It was a very cool one!

I've also met TWO guildmates from WoW. The first we just spent the night at his house on our way to a different place. He introduced us to Game of Thrones. xD I also had an old guildmate visit us when we went to DC. He drove us to Baltimore to visit the aquarium and eat at some hole in the wall philly cheesesteak place he went to growing up.

Three times. One was awkward but fine, two was awkward and not fine, and three was creepy and I regret ever befriending them.

Oh wait, there was a 4th. I got dinner with a guy and his wife from my guild in an online game because I mentioned I'd be traveling through his area. It was fun!

Not specific fans, only been to a few conventions. Well, way back in the day, the year Deathly Hallows came out, I went to a Harry Potter convention in England and met up with a Lucius Malfoy fangroup at one point.

Once, and it was a bit awkward because they had literally gotten their heart broken the night before. It was actually a big gathering so they weren't alone but I felt bad and basically acted like an idiot because I didn't know what to do and followed them around for like 80% of the time I was there.

Yup. She is my platonic soul mate and we have visited each other and taken holidays together to places like a writing con, the Ren faire, hotel weekends to see the newest movie we're dying to watch, etc. We talk every day. We write together. It's awesome. :D

Yes, twice. One went very well indeed and we're good buddies to this day, have stayed with each other etc. The other also went pretty well, but my health collapsed soon after and I haven't kept up. I feel bad about it but that's just life.

Yes, a lot of times. (I live in a major city of my country, so either people are close enough most of the time or visit at least as a transport hub. Also I like to travel)
Some people are now my IRL friends. Some people I had a fun day with. Some were just a little bit awkward. With some people I had good relationship offline, but had a fallout online.

Also remembered. I've met irl my first fandom friend I've met through mailing lists at age like 14 in a group setting with directions like "we meet at 1 near this landmark on Sunday, I will be wearing white"
Also good experience, I've been friendly with this group through my teenage years, going to concerts etc

Lots of times, but I'm older and have been on the internet in some form or another since the mid-90s. You vet people as much as you can, of course, and be aware of potential red flags or creepsters, meet in public, etc. Overall, it went really well for me. I've traveled to hang out with people I met through a shared hobby, and I'm still very close friends with people I met in fandom. We've stayed at each others houses, met up for lunch/dinner/hangouts, etc.

There's been a few awkward moments, but I wouldn't trade it for the world and it's made my life a lot more interesting.

Great! We got to meet each other's cats, cook together, we've done craft time in the same room, and for a while we were in the same in-person D&D group but now we D&D online.

My two BBFs for life are women I met on the internet first! (Ok, well technically I met one at a high school event but we didn't connect at all until we both ended up in the same HARRY POTTER LIVEJOURNAL FANFICTION COMM in college because this was the 2000s). I've met a lot of internet friends! I've had maybe one bad experience, because I am very much the same person offline that I am online, and I have a pretty good Red Flag Detector.

Wah so many times that this question made me feel warm and fuzzy. The first time I ever attempted to meet an online friend was so long ago that mobiles weren't a thing and we couldn't find each other in the crowd. Later met a friend and we had to SMS text each other "what are you wearing" to make sure since photos were so pixelated. But before I was of legal age my parents always accompanied me to ensure that things would be fine.

Later met a lot of online acquaintances at local cons. Some times were fun, others not so much, others were downright traumatizing. Some I befriended or dated for a bit, some were weirdos. None of them are part of my life now but those are good memories as a whole.

The comment above mine made me think of something. I'm very different online/offline. The explanation is autism actually. I'm talkative (particularly about fandom) online but slow and quiet IRL so I'm the same on the inside but don't come across as the same because people like to label others and then criticize these others when they guess wrong.

Yes. It was exciting, and the event we met at was a blast. But I stopped talking to that friend after we met because they made me uncomfortable. Grateful I took the chance, don't regret anything, but it was a learning experience.
