secret #4

I love when shows try to hide the pregnancy but are really obvious about "hiding" the pregnancy of their actors. I think Seinfeld pulled this off really well.

What other shows pulled off the "no this character is not pregnant at all" and then the fun follow up of "they are just randomly gone for sudden Plot Reasons"?

Call the Midwife. Trixie (Helen George) who is a decided fashion plate, was suddenly wearing a lot of big wraps and shawls and things (it WAS winter on the show), and then had to go to stay with her godmother in Italy for story reasons (actually good story reasons rather than something stupid).

Funny you mention Seinfeld. I think that's the show that was referenced on The Nanny when they tried hiding Lauren Lane's (C.C.) pregnancy.

Oh yeah, and her temporary absence was due to the character losing her mind and staying at a mental hospital (this was during the season Maxwell and Fran became engaged).

Deep Space 9 pulled it off for a little while with Kira until they came up with scifi reasons why Keiko's baby would end up in Kira.

I loved that storyline, I commented above in the secret about how good it was! And I loved that they called the baby Kirayoshi, which is a legit Japanese name and also after Kira!

Lily in How I Met Your Mother had a spell where she kept wearing big shirts and carrying large objects in front of her stomach.

One time, Barney told her a joke that pissed her off so bad she had to leave for the rest of the episode.

I enjoy the way SVU hid Mariska's pregnancies (big coats/sweaters, sitting a lot especially behind a desk, Not Appearing In This Episode), but at the same time I'm puzzled that they wrote Rollins into having two babies when that actress was pregnant. It didn't add anything to the character and could have been covered the same way.

Jeri Ryan's pregnancy during season 2 of Shark was hidden by big coats and the usual "always either behind a desk or holding a big box of something" tricks, and then her character suddenly leaving for the rest of the season was explained as her needing to go to Chicago and take care of her dad for a little while after he had a stroke. She would've come back if there had been a 3rd season, but sadly, the show never got one, so presumably she's still in Chicago looking after her dad.

January Jones was pregnant during season 5 of Mad Men and her character Betty had a season long arc about having gained weight. And it fit in perfectly because in previous seasons, it was well known that as a child Betty struggled with her weight and her mom had been controlling and not very kind.

It was well executed and I often forgot that January Jones was pregnant as fat Betty XD

Cheers filmed scenes in advance and then had Diane and Frasier go on vacation.
