For sheer number of subgroups? Probably old school HP. Snapewives, yes. But there were also the Harmonians, the "it will turn out that the blood purists were right all along" subgroup of Slytherfen, etc. There were the people who thought JKR was leaving them secret messages in the books, and the ones who were sure that the last book was a fakeout and there was going to be a real last book that didn't suck. That fandom was basically a one stop shop for every type of delusional fan.

I mean. If we got a new book seven now, and were told the old one could be ignored, I would be totally fine with that.

Book seven was terrible.

You're not wrong about book seven, but that's what fanfic's for. I don't need to see the secret real ending where Harry saves Wizarding Britain from trans Voldemort by shitting his pants.

I'd kind of love it if that book came out, maybe it would get more people to stop worshiping her mediocre writing... or to just give up on the new adaptations in disgust over the pants-shitting.
