Delusional fans

(Anonymous) 2026-01-26 11:30 pm (UTC)(link)
I know every fandom has there little group of over the top fans, so what fandom that you've been in has had the most delusional fans?

Or, what fandom do you think had/has the most delusional obsessive fans? (My vote would be for Snapewives.)

Snapewives to Solaswives to Astarionwives is a fucking pipeline and jfc have I steered clear of every single one. I think in ME there were some Garruswives but I didn’t hear as much about that(if they were also insufferable feel free to correct me as I was never in the fandom).

DA Wait are they the same people? They must be like 75 by now??

Ohh I didn't know there were Solaswives! That cracks me up. I came to that fandom very late so missed a lot of the social drama side of it.

You forgot about Anders. They were the worst.

Damn I'm glad I never got caught in this pipeline....

Being in the Voltron fandom but not shipping either Klance or Sheith was an experience let me tell you.

Teen Wolf

Not really the level of Snapewives, but I remember a vocal subset of the TW fandom being adamant that there was a really complicated thematic overarching plot to all of the seasons that would only be clear when it all came together because there were GENIUSES writing that show. They were also usually the same ones that were absolutely certain that Sterek was endgame and going to be onscreen.

Harry Potter and Supernatural fandoms in general brought out the worst in people, at least in my experience.

For sheer number of subgroups? Probably old school HP. Snapewives, yes. But there were also the Harmonians, the "it will turn out that the blood purists were right all along" subgroup of Slytherfen, etc. There were the people who thought JKR was leaving them secret messages in the books, and the ones who were sure that the last book was a fakeout and there was going to be a real last book that didn't suck. That fandom was basically a one stop shop for every type of delusional fan.

I mean. If we got a new book seven now, and were told the old one could be ignored, I would be totally fine with that.

Book seven was terrible.

Johnlock, I don’t think I really need to elaborate lmao.

And like I shipped them but it was very clear to me that they weren’t going to actually make them canon, and s4 sucking absolute ass was a not a surprised as s3 was also shit. But I think the fanbase had more faith than I did that the show would turn around for s4 whereas for me s3 was the sign that any of the halfway decent writing had left the building. And I wasn’t someone who thought the show was Good TV, just fun but s3 wasn’t even fun.

Harry Potter. Where to even begin? Snapewives, MsScribe, all the fighting between the websites. There was also a lot of elitism and "canon shipping".

To this day MsScribe is the peak fandom craziness to me. I wasn't involved in the actual drama but the write up of it was legendary.

Someone unthread has mentioned Astrarion fans but yeah, they’re the reason I stopped bothering with the fandom because it very swiftly became all about him to the point you couldn’t even mention the oversaturation without those fans accusing you of bullying them for being annoyed about it. God forbid I wanted to talk about literally any other character and not want it to get side-tracked into talking all about his issues.

Astarion fans are the reason I avoided having him in my camp entirely after my first run.

Not sure it's any specific fandom, but anyone who believes they are the reincarnation of a fictional character. It's extra hilarious when it's from a relatively new series.

They also tend to "kin" more than one fictional character depending on their mood that day.

I find the idea hilarious in general. These are characters written by other people. Had someone once insist that it wasn't enough to block me on Tumblr, I needed to block them. Because they were a reincarnated Sauron and were offended that I multi-shipped him.

a lot of Harry Potter fans are fucking nuts (the adults, not the kids). I had to disassociate myself from one who decided she actually had real magic powers and started calling people "muggle trash".
a lot of Elvis fans are also nuts

The fictive kids who insist that they're a 'system' and all their 'headmates' just happen to be their favorite characters from their favorite shows, so they can randomly rp when other people are just trying to have normal conversations. The worst are the ones who claim fictives of actual real life streamers and throw a fit when the streamer is understandably uncomfortable and would like them to stop larping in official discords.

In the One Direction fandom, there were some scarily delusional tinhat Larries (offshoot of the smush name Larry Stylinson for Harry Styles and Louis Tomlinson). They decided that a pregnancy was faked by their management to squash any speculation of a relationship between the two, then that the actual baby (Louis' son) was fake, then, I think, that he was a hired child actor or something.

Can we mention a hatedom?

I literally just saw some Hazbin fan commenters who made a video of 'top funniest swear moments ' get insane comments ranging from 'kys' to 'you should lose your rights for this' to 'you seem like someone whose going to be found out for grooming a kid'.

Because they like a hated show and said curse words are funny sometimes.

WTAF why would you say that kind of shit. Ew

Being a Warhammer fan is kind of exciting because it's just *known* that a certain percentage of us are neo nazi weirdo bigots. Good fan spaces drive them off with cool weirdo non-bigotry so they make their own spaces and suck out loud together.

These are the people who look at a political system that crashed and burned 80 years with 10s of millions dead and think "goals" so when some facebook fan goes "Humanity are the good guys of 40k because the Imperium is strong and moral and efficient*" I don't know if they're actually delusional or if they've only seen the box art.

*They ain't.
