I've been reading and loving manga for decades, but in the past few years I've had to impose a couple of rules for myself before starting a new series:

1. If the title has more than four, max five words, skip. I am not picking up "Served Dinner?! I was stolen from my elf kingdom to be a bodyguard to a troll princess who is naughty and also I have special ostrich powers?!" I know that the industry runs trends like long titles into the ground, but I am not having it.

2. If there are more than two creators listed, skip. It almost always means a manga adapted from a light novel (which I don't read), and I assume mangaka who adapt light novels have to do so because their own work isn't good enough.

WoW bombing quests ARE NOT fun. Some of them are ok, but way too many of them rely on competing with other people for mobs, or else the targeting mechanism is finicky, or you have to hit so many things that it takes forever, or there's something else about it that's really annoying. They've done better with ones in the newer expansions, but going back to Legion content reminds me of how irritating they can be.

My favorite character in the Harley Quinn animated series is Clayface. Huzzah! He is a delight!

Sometimes I wonder how the races from Star Trek would react to Morden and the Shadows on B5, and then I remember that Klingons have no cultural taboo against nailing someone's tongue to a tree for being a manipulative dick. And that ends that line of thought pretty quick.

Every time I read comments from a political/bigoted troll, I imagine the drooling typing monkeys from Superman (2025).

Following Netflix's clever ploy to maintain subscribers by releasing Stranger Things in different months so that people would be forced to pay for multiple months instead of binging the show and canceling their subscription, all I can think is that streaming services will start slowly releasing shows week by week to maintain streaming subscriptions instead of dropping entire seasons at once and look, we're going to be right back to the cable TV model again...

I won't pay content creators money online unless they are consistent with their streaming/uploading. I won't subscribe to your Twitch if you take off six weeks over the holidays, I won't join your Patreon if you skip episodes of your podcast and are constantly late with uploads, I won't join your channel on YouTube if you just up and vanish for weeks or even months at a time. I only pay when they are consistent and actually put effort in. And if the effort stops, so does may payment.

I really, really hate crossovers in fic. This is a secret, because two of my closest friends have been writing crossover stories for years - that they never clean up to publish! It’s just this RP-esque dialogue-heavy bullshit! - and I have been the hype-man and encouragement and it is always the dumbest shit.

I have yet to see a crossover fic that wasn't the most self-indulgent drivel ever put to metaphorical paper from anyone, whether it’s my buddies or in the wild on any fic archive.

Honestly that seems perfectly reasonable.

Curious what makes crossover fic more self-indulgent than other types of fanfic.

There’s definitely a lot of it that’s just not very good, but that seems standard for fanfiction and amateur writing in general.
