(Anonymous) 2026-02-01 03:43 pm (UTC)(link)From what I understand through osmosis, the book does have more hockey. The second book especially, which might mean season 2 has a bigger focus on it as well, but at least the show really focused on the relationship. I think there you'll have to separate the book from the show, which had to be much more selective with what it gave focus to. And on a purely meta level, the hockey scenes probably cost a lot more than the regular shots, so it makes sense to limit those to the absolute necessities. The show had a shoe string budget, so it makes total sense to me that all of what you're looking for with the hockey is built up outside of the actual ice - in the locker rooms, scenes with teammates or family, interviews, etc.
Honestly, if you ever do watch the show I'd be interested if you still think the same or if what the show provides overall does satisfy what you want from the setting. Obviously it does for me but I also have zero interest in sports.
Though funny that you mention the PWHL - I'm now being pushed PWHL content thanks to Heated Rivalry and I might check out actual games. I've seen mic'ed up and assorted interviews so far and it seems like way more enjoyable to me than the male counterpart.
